Kohler generator question

Sorry, I'm not sure I know which part the catalyst is. I thought it was internal. I wonder if you provided the serial #, if Kohler could tell you if the catalyst was replaced under warranty. I think they should have that information. If it's gushing like mine was, I can't imagine what else it would be other than a plugged catalyst. Something is plugged, for sure...

I will look into it a little more.

Do you remember if there was there any waterflow coming out of the generator exhaust port or was the only area for the raw water to exit through the siphon valve? My boat seems to have good flow from the port which is curious.

I believe there was still water coming out of the exhaust port, so it must not have been completely plugged. But, enough to cause a significant flow to be diverted to the siphon break.

Well, it is confirmed. I will need the updated parts from Kohler, it is clogged. I had my mechanic take a look at it today when he was on the boat for another issue.

Has anybody had luck with kohler providing the parts at no cost for an out of warranty generator? I'm also the 2nd owner.

Glad you figured it out. Not sure about parts as mine was warranty. I would guess Kohler is the only source for the catalyst, but I never looked. Someone else might know better.

Good luck!

Thank you.

One last questions, do you have the old service bulletin anywhere? SB-662 was the original one, but after some Google research, I found that Kohler revised it with SB-692 and a different part. I cant find anything other than references to the service bulletin. This will all be fixed with a call to Kohler tomorrow afternoon, but I'm trying to get my ducks in a row.

No, sorry. I never saw the bulletin. Kohler set me us with the company in the area that services them, and they took care of everything under warranty. I guess I got lucky - this time I didn't have to deal with all the BS!

Got it fixed and running correctly. Unfortunately not covered by kohler. Do you recall if your fix has the anti siphon tube still connected? My mechanic thought the updated bulletin said to eliminate it, but I don't see why it would not be needed anymore. I would be concerned that running it without could cause problems in the future.

I would leave it hooked up just in case that siphon break ever fails again. Otherwise you'd have water spraying all over in the bilge... Fresh or salt water, neither is good! At least that tube will keep it controlled and down to the bottom of the bilge.

Sorry, I should have said valve instead of tube... All of it was completely removed so there is no siphon break at all.

I agree with the tube though, that would be a brutal cleanup if it just sprayed all over the bilge, engine, etc.

Mine still has the break and the tube, just as before the catalyst fix.

Thanks for the reply.

After some research I think that I need it in there as well. I'm going to have it put back in. Hopefully I can put this generator issue to bed once and for all!
