Hi all
Have a sundancer 280 with 5e generator. Its running but the exhaust port where the water comes out has a frothy gas smell. Any suggestions on what the issue is? Gen does not get used much-i know they must be ran but always forget to run it even when not needed just to keep it running smooth

thanks in advance

Have the spark plugs been checked / changed within the past season?
These generators require the spark plugs be changed at least once a year and most owners including myself use NGK plugs one heat range higher than stock.

and verify the choke is full open when running.

if neither of the above is the source of the problem a new carb may be a solution. The carbs on Kohler are not tolerant of fuel with ethanol.

Thanks for the info. The plugs were changed at the beginning of the season in April. But I have not used it like I should so will start with those.

Is this all the time while running or just during the start up phase while the choke is activated?

Is the water flow out the exhaust pretty strong? Last time impeller was changed?

Mine is a 2004 as well. Thanks

As far as water flow it's normal. Didn't let it run last 5 minutes to see if would go away though. Didn't know if I was shooting lot of gas in the water so shut it off.

So on a Kohler 5e with the Kawasaki FD501D the book specifies a NGK BMR6A. I use a NGK BMR5A which is one step hotter.

Thanks. I started it up yesterday let it run for 10 minutes straight with ac, microwave and stove running and seems to run fine now. Maybe the gas smell was flooding from too much cranking?? Going to let it run longer later . Appreciate all the advice
