Does any one know what type of antifreeze the 2008 Kohler 7.3 ECD generator takes.
It is a pee color so I am not sure and I called Kohler to get no response.

Dexcool is pink, but that doesn't explain the green stuff, some are compatible with others, others are not. Check owners manual or decal on generator for info.

I did check manual, called Kohler, looked on generator, called local Kohler dealer to get no answers that's why I am looking for help.

7.3 ECD takes a 50/50 mix of ethylene glycol and water. The off color is likely due to a faded bottle. If not, do a complete flush and change the anode.

The color you see on the outside is the same color when I take off the cap and look inside.
Do you know how to drain all the antifreeze out of the block.

Just to the right of the oil filter is the coolant hose. Loose the clamp and remove the hose to drain the coolant. Refill with water and flush the system. After draining, add a 50/50 mix back in. On the exchanger you will find the anode location. Replace that. If you're in it that far, replace the thermostat where the exchanger bolts up to the tank. Replace the impeller as well. You'll be good for several years.

I am sure it came new with Dex Cool which is a red/orange color. That looks like Prestone. I have read the horror stories of mixing the two, but have no experience. I would go back with Prestone and not take a chance of mixing.

Unless I'm mistaken, the manual says otherwise. I'd go with whatever the manual states.

My Koehler unit clearly says Dexcool in a label on it. In the manual it says 50-50 ethylene glycol. Then the supplement that overrides the manual states Dexcool.

I know first hand of mixing two different types, had local oil change done on my truck years ago and they topped off my radiator recovery bottle with green Prestone , being a GM truck it had Dexcool from factory. Anyway months later my radiator was all gummed up with the bad mixture of prestone and dexcool, had to replace radiator and flush engine the best I could. DON"T mix the two!!!!

Thanks
I am going to do what it says on page 30, Drain the system and refill

That might be the best way to go. I have been planning this and I do not trust that anyone followed the proper instructions the last time so I will be flushing and refilling with Dexcool as that is what I am labeled for. That way I will have 100% certainty of what coolant is in there.
