My buddy has a 2006 40DA with the 7.3 Ecd generator. From what we can tell it has a small oil leak. I confirmed the oil dipstick is tight, the oil filter is tight, and rhe valve covers don't appear to be leaking (nor the oil cap).

It appears to be underneath the unit but you can't really see shit in the current location. I rebuilt my 6.5cz a few years ago and the Kohler o-rings were notorious for drying out and shrinking causing the leaks. I literally replaced every external o-ring and I got it to stop leaking.

With that said, are there any specific areas that people have experienced a leak on this unit? First areas I'd look would be the flywheel or rotor crank seals or the oil pump seal.

The oil leak is so small that he hasn't had to add any oil all season... No low oil shut downs either. I'm half tempted to tell him to put a pig mat underneath until it gets worse. He only boat from his slip to the cove every weekend. 30 mins one way.

What say you??

Are you sure it is not oil just trapped in the pan - from changing the oil filter?

Positive. It's been dried and cleaned up several times.
Did you ever figure out where the leak was coming from? We’re currently chasing a mystery oil leak on our gen and can’t find where it’s coming from, either.

I did. Crank seal on the flywheel side. Pop covers, pull flywheel, R&R the seal.
