Hello,

I'm in the process of purchasing a 2004 300 Sundancer. While I was looking over the generator (Kohler 5kw), I noticed it has an antifreeze tank that I would assume is for cooling the generator. If this is for cooling, does it use lake water as well? What would it need to be winterized. Also how do you change the oil?

It does use lake water as well. You should winterize by closing off sea water and running pink antifreeze through the unit. Also change the oil and filter at end of season. You can download the owner's manual from the Kohler site which will give you all the details.

Oil is easy to change, remove oil filter and open the valve at the base of the generator and let it drain. Easy project.

Midland TX?

My oil change pump mounted on a 5 gal bucket has an small hose you can run down the boat motors' dip stick tube to suck out the old oil. The same hose snuggly fits into the generator drain. I insert it into the drain, open the valve, turn on the suction pump & very quickly all the old oil is suck out of the generator. I also lay a couple of sheets of paper towel under the oil filter as I remove it to catch the tablespoon or so of old oil into spills out. Oil changes are very easy.
