Have been thinking about this idea for a while and recently thought of the perfect way to present it to the brass in Tennessee. What is the old cliché “it is better to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission?” So instead of asking the bosses if this is a good idea, I would like for the members of CSR to tell me first. Tell me what you think about this one. The idea is this….

Around the second week(end) of September I would like to know how many of you folks would consider it a possibility to travel to Knoxville TN for an exciting weekend of touring the manufacturing facility as well as seeing some brand new boats and products laid out before you. I believe we (Sea Ray) could put on a good show for all the loyalty that comes from this club and maybe with some southern barbeque and fun activities to boot, we could have a great time at the mother ship. How about……

• Seeing firsthand how YOUR boats were built and the great folks that build them.
• Checking out the current product line and (keep it a secret) taking a look at what’s coming to your dealers real soon.
• And finally but by no means last, I will beg for you folks to have the opportunity to meet the President of my company. He travels a lot to keep us strong so I cannot promise his availability at this time but if Mr. Rob Parmentier is in town, you will see what I brag about, in person.

I do have a ton of ideas but am certainly not closed to suggestions from anyone or everyone, which hopefully would make it a memorable time for all. Instead of me saying some of the planning that I believe we could conquer, I will only list only a few of the activities that could make a few days in Knoxville TN area worthwhile for the entire family. I have always said that building boats is only one of the many things we at Sea Ray Boats, do well….I will ask our team to throw the party at the plant but if you need other activities to convince the Admiral and Mates, how about these other jaunts you may want to consider for the whole family…

• Knoxville TN is in very close proximity to The Smoky Mountains- Gatlinburg TN/Cherokee NC
• Dollyworld Adventure Park- kids will love it
• Blue Ridge Parkway- one of the most beautiful roadways in America. It runs on top of the Appalachian Mountains range
• U of Tennessee football-home game that weekend, go SEC. The spectacle of a big time college football game
• Tail of the Dragon- do we have any bike riders in the club, this is very close by
• Knoxville itself is a way cool town; full of history, culture and scenery that draws thousands every year…….the list can go on and on.

Now you see why I come to you first. If the seed is planted and takes root, we will all be the recipients of the fruits of our efforts……. You will not see this idea in any magazine or even in our own Sea Ray Living, it will only appear right here in Club Sea Ray, because YOU deserve it!

Your thoughts please,

Respectfully,
Capt. Rusty Higgins

I'm in! What a fantastic idea. Knoxville is indeed a cool place. Depending on how many people we had, If we booked a block of rooms we would be able to set up a catered dinner in one of the hotel's small conference rooms. (Just thinking aloud.)

A football game in that town is hard to "squeeze in" though.

As for football....
9/15 Florida comes to town........Book a room early.
9/22 Akron visits........ good seats should be pretty easy to get.
9/29 Vols @ Georgia.

I would be interested but it would have to be a different month for us. Our club has 3 cruises in September including (2) week long cruises. I WILL visit a Sea Ray facility within the next year!

I worked for a Knoxville based company for 8 years, and can second the East TN area as a great place to visit. Its a nice idea, if I had an opening in my schedule I would try to attend, if not this year then if a future event was planned. I have a former co worker who just started at Brunswick, and I was going to do a factory visit at some point anyway.

BUT, I would not do this the weekend of a UT home game. It can be hard to find a decent hotel room anywhere in Knoxville on a UT home game weekend, and if you do its going to be expensive. Pick an off weekend, there is still plenty of stuff to do in East TN.

The Akron game would be the best to get tickets.... keep helping me work through this. I know we can make it happen just need the best date.... a consensus and a crowd that everyone (including the plant) can agree on.

The idea is great. Put me down for a tentative yes. I have a couple of computer industry events around that time.

Great idea. Had the opportunity to tour the Merritt Island facility earlier this year Mr. Parmentier - what a guy! We would definitely be interested in coming depending on the date. September is rather busy with real job commitments. Any chance of a date later in the fall when the boating season is winding down for us northerners?

can we bring boats ??
my little 1960 600 should be done well before then
be fun for some SR people to see it

Sounds good to me! It has been a while since I've been to the plant.

Just did the "tail of the dragon" again last weekend. Yep it is even fun in a Car!

Sounds like a great idea Rusty. I would be interested but cannot be sure until a hard date is set. Any time after labor day weekend in September is good for me though.

Fabulous. After years and years of traveling to UT football games I decide to give up my season tickets this year and focus my fall weekends on boating in my new to me 300DA. Normally I'd be in Knoxville every home game, but not this year. Timing is everything.

I think it would be great... IT would be a nice getaway. I'll be watching for the date and if I can steal away from work and school I'll be in the car on my way to Knoxville!!!

(side note Rusty your PM box is full again brother...)

Thanks for doing this Rusty. Once the date is set I can try to get it on the calendar. Most of September is open at the moment. It sounds like fun.

The admiral and I would be in, depending on the work schedule. Living in Knoxville, I too can vouch for the great area and offer suggestions if necessary. Would this be a driving only event or could we boat there and tie up? For anyone boating up, I would recommend overnighting at our marina (Concord Marina). We are proud of it and our restaurant is probably the nicest one on the water for many miles. Maybe we could set something up at our marina too, as we have a party room and deck that can be used.
