Kindle vs Nook

For books, I think a kindle has several distinct advantages over an iPad.

Certainly, you don' NEED 3G to buy a book. How many books do YOU buy during the day when you don't have wifi?

Battery life I think is an issue currently for the iPad and many tablet devices. Although. . I admit a bias because of the number of flights I take overseas.

Cost is another issue: Tablets are expensive for what you get.

I suspect in a few years, the tablets will be the way to go. Once O/S's become more stable (i.e. the Android tablets), and the iPad gets a S/D slot -> I am definately in the market. I presume the prices will also "go the right way"

Looking at getting an ereader as a gift. Does anyone have experience with either? One key thing is being able to be out around the pool or boat in the sun and be able to read...

Thanks for your input...

YOUR VISA STATEMENT WILL NEVER LOOK THE SAME AGAIN!
I bought my wife a KOBO the first week of November for her birthday. Its a great unit and can be see in daylight easy. Ereaders do not use backlight display which is great during the day. You will need a light however to read in the dark (they cost about $10) and snap on to the Kindle or Kobo.

I am pretty sure they are all WiFi now - but that is a must have feature so new book can be downloaded. The downloading triggers the billing.

I can't think of a better gift for a boater who likes to read,

I have owned a Kindle for two years and I must say the one thing I truly like about it is that it reads to me.

Every morning I usually download a newspaper, and, my Kindle reads the newspaper to me as I drive to work. :smt043

Last time I checked the Ipad, the "text to speech" feature was not available, plus, the smaller size of the Kindle is right on.

I am not sure if the Nook has "text to speech".

I don't hardly go anywhere without my Kindle.

I bought one for my wife and two children, who, are actually beyond the age of "children".

This is unbelievable!!! I decided this morning to buy the Admiral a Kindle/IPAD/Nook whatever for Christmas. She loves to read. This is on top of the totally new bathroom and kitchen. Oh gosh what was I thinking!
So I though I would start doing some online research on the aforementioned. Went to the store and still couldn't decide.
So, I decide to have a glass of wine or two and sail through some threads on Club Sea Ray while the Admiral gets ready. Another Christmas Party.
I can't thank you guys enough - Here is a thread and now I know what to get her.
Merry Christmas and Thanks!!!

Kindle is the way to go. If you have any apple products (Iphone, Ipad, etc) you can get the Kindle App and it will automatically load any books you previously purchased from Amazon (at no extra charge)
