Kid w/Lego gun

My wife is a teacher... If the kid has "special needs", then he will be exempt from any "zero tolerance" policy by most state's as well as federal law. I should also say "special needs" does not mean mentally impared either. Parents rush to get their kids on something called an "Independent Education Plan (IEP)" here so their kids can be exempt from these rules. They end up being the kids that are disruptive and obnoxious in class and are protected. You can thank Bill Clinton for that. If one of these students brings a gun to school and threatens to kill people, it will be hushed... If a straight A student has a multi-tool in his car, he'll be expelled. My wife's life has been threatened twice this year... and nothing was done because the students were "special needs" and had an IEP... The Supreme Court has even ruled on the conflicting laws in this area and nothing is being done because of the "no child left behind" bullsh!t. The way it is handled is "some kids can make threats and bring guns and some kids can not."

We have even had to hire a lawyer to deal with this stuff. Most teachers can't do that but when it happened to my wife, who is teaching because it was a dream of hers, I said "screw this.. people need to know." Most people don't know that the kids that did the Columbine or Virginia Tech shootings would have been exempt from any legal action before the crime because of the current laws. It's shocking... and I encourage anyone with kids to google this stuff and not take my word for it.

My youngest is now 11 and he plays with those types of guns... I am just waiting for the day he shows up to school with a 2" light sabre from one of his Star Wars action figures and is expelled.

Meanwhile, back at the chicken farm, you can put explosives in your undershorts and try and blow up a plane and get a few million bucks in lawyers at taxpayer expense to defend yourself.

Who ever signed off on this nonsense should be fired. They should be banned from the education field for life...Too stupid to teach any one any thing...

Well said Gary. My sister is a teacher, and so are many of my patients. I can't believe what "the system" has come to. As a Hokie Alum, it was appalling to hear how difficult it is to label someone mentally ill. Just like our politicians in Washington, academic bearucrats seem to have forgotten what their life was like in the classroom. No way I could do it. Kudos to your wife.
