I have had an almost annual fishing trip to Key West for about 6 years with a bunch of good friends. We are usually focused on Tarpon and bars. This year we did some different stuff. My good friend's (known him since we were 12 years old) father purchased a 74ft Viking Sportfish a couple of years ago. We haven't made it to the Keys since he purchased the boat. The boat has a full time captain and when fished a mate. While planning the trip this year his father suggested we try Marlin fishing. He had gotten into tournament fishing since purchasing the Viking and thought we would like it. We pulled baits around in the Gulf Stream for a day and a half and only caught a small Mahi. We spent the night between in a marina in downtown Key West- walking distance to Duval St. After day two of no fish we headed in and spent the time till dusk Tarpon fishing. our boat hooked two and boated one. Day three we went shark fishing. This was new to us, but the most fun so far. We have caught plenty of shark while Tarpon fishing. This time we were targeting them. It was a blast. We had multiple hook ups at the same time. My arms were dragging by the time we made it to the airport in the evening.
Some specs on the Viking- 74 ft, 12 cylinder MTU engines, over 2000 horsepower, cruise speed to gulf stream 33 knots, top speed 45 knots, 5 staterooms and 4 heads, full time captain
