I personally knew a guy who got killed out on a mooring ball. Nobody charged. Al, didnt have 2 nickels, was just a sailor drifter.
I'm sorry to hear that.
In KW the issue is that no security means it is okay to steal. If you are on a mooring field....they know when you hop in your dinghy and head to shore. Within seconds they are onboard and have broken into your boat. They take as much as they can....computers, watches, electronics, jewelry, guns anything they can sell and are gone in 5 minutes.
You come back and the boat has been ransacked and you feel violated. The cops show up the next day and say: "it happens from time to time which is why staying at a Marina is safer". Then they ask who your insurance company is and who to send a copy of the police report to.
I can't imagine anything good will happen if you left someone behind on your boat.
Just my thoughts. Going cheap increases the risks.
