Had a great time between christmas and new years - due to time constraints we were unable to meet up with the rest of the group in Key West - but Key Largo was a great destination. We left from The Bahia Mar in Ft. Lauderdale, it has become our adopted "home port" We stayed inside as it was blowing out of the east at 15-20kts. within a couple of hours we were at Bakers Haulover inlet/park - looks like a fun place
We continued on the inside past Miami and down Biscayne Bay
We then went through Angelfish Creek to Hawks Channel
The entrance to Port Largo is narrow and there is a blind corner, but the channel opens up nicely - and all local boats are friendly and have a great system for avoidance
Marina Del Mar is surrounded by 3 resorts in a park like setting, boaters have the run of all 3 resorts
one of the 3 pools
The African Queen (from the Humphry Bogart/Katherine Hepburn Film) was restored in 2012 and offers rides under steam power!
on the way back we took a detour to check out stiltsville
We tried to do some snorkeling while we were there, but is was a bit too choppy - instead, we anchored behind rodriguez key to swim and relax. The weather was perfect the whole time we were there - day or night I don't think it was below 78 or over 82. We enjoyed a relitively calm new years eve back at the bahia mar with some dock neighbors....
