Thought I would start a new version of this thread to gauge interest in a mid-summer raft up at Keowee. That sure sounds like fun and I for one would be interessted in participating.

I'm in Greenville so it's a pretty easy pull for me up to Crow Creek. Only been to Keowee once but it looks terrific, I don't know any of the islands or specific POI but need to learn them and this would a great way to do that with like minded folks.

I've got an old (1980) SRV225 that I'm sort of "restoring". That means fixing all the amaturish stuff the prior dufus owners did to the poor thing. Amazing the slipshod care and maintenance some folks do. Main hit so far is the new engine and exhaust I replaced because the guy "forgot" to tell me he didn't do "winterization" and the block, heads and risers we all cracked.

Thank Goodness the outdrive was ok. Guess the "silver" lining is that I have a solid propulsion system (5.7 up from a 5.0) and better (center riser) subsystems. Getting close to finding and replacing all the "scotch" taps and twist ties with real butt connectors and shrink wrap. Still a few wires hanging loose that I don't know what they are or are not doing.

Anyway, I would be happy to work with folks to coordinate a gettogether. sounds like fun!!

Hey Travers,
The Lake Keowee Raft Up is usually during the Labor Day Weekend. I'm always out of town so I've never participated but it does look like fun. However if your just looking to beach up at any of the many Islands on the lake it's easy to do. Look for a large sandy area and head into the middle of it. The drop off is such that you usually don't have to worry about your outdrive but it never hurts to keep the depth finder on to make sure. A favorite stop for me is the sandy peninsula just off of Island #9. On the north side of the lake another good spot is the southwest corner of Island #15. Both have good drop offs and the waters around them are usually pretty calm. Once the bow is on the beach I put out a 10# Mushroom Anchor with about 20 feet of line tie it off the bow and throw it on the beach. This is enough to keep the boat in place and I have never had a problem with the stern moving on me. Make sure to bring some chairs, a beach umbrella and a full cooler! Have Fun!

Hey Travers,
I am planning on coordinating the Labor Day raft up again this year! It will be interesting to see how many persons respond to this thread. We are open to meeting up with anyone anytime we are there and if you can gather a few boats that would be great. We have been there the past 3 weekends and a whole week in between that time and have seen LOTS of SeaRays. But there does not seem to be a large group on CSR. We had a great, large croud for our first LD raftup and made the calendar. Since, it's been a slightly smaller group and we only have two steadies from that first yr. Ringy Dingy rallies the croud from Keowee Marina. Last yr brought in some new folks that I hope
will return. I would love to figure out how to target others on the lake and those that trailer. It's a fun time to gather and make new friends and on such a beautiful lake!

Thanks for the responses. I'll keep an eye on this forum as the summer moves along. I need to get up to the lake and just poke around so that I'm comfortable around the Islands. My neighbor's parents (poor baby) have a place on Keowee close to one of the putins.

I'll coordinate with them as they're up there many weekends. Looking forward to getting together with new friends.

Yep the Keowee Labor Day raftup has always been fun!!
Good times and great people.

Sounds good. Spoke with a reputable source today and it does not sound promising that SeaRay of Greenville will be having an aquapalooza but they may be interested in participating in the LD raftup. At least with advertising it. I will start a seperate thread closer to time but until then, maybe we can gather some general keowee interest on here.

Hall Marine - Lake Wylie Marina will have Aquapalooza on Sat. July 23,2011 9-5pm on Lake Wylie. Kes, this would be a great weekend for you guys to come back to Lake Wylie. There were about 75 boats at the event last year. Hope you can make it.

Oh yeah I'll be there even if Old Skool is held together with wire and duct tape. Island #11 is also a great island. The south side opens to the mile camp grounds and creats a natural bay affect.

Have not been but may try to make it. Sounds like a great turnout! Thanks

11 is out in the open nearer to Warpath landing. 15 and 17 are near Mile Creek Campground south of Crow Creek.
