Has anyone installed a keel guard on their Searay? I am beaching my 220 Sundeck alot and already have a keel guard. Should I install it and save the gel coat or not worry about it and keep beaching?

Our 270 DA already had a bunch of scratches. A fiberglass repair shop faired the bad gashes and installed 5' of keel guard for about $225. It would have been a bit of work for me to have heated and molded the guard to the strakes. Well worth it: cleaned up the uglies and helps prevent new ones.

I would buy and install the keelguard. The price hit you take at resale with nice scratches on the keel will easily outweigh (cost you more) than the price of a keel guard. When you install the keel guard you will have to be careful...... it does not allow for a free pass to plow into the beach at 20 MPH... but it does work very well.

On my previous 220BR we installed one.... just in case... but I also choose to keep the boat off the beach.... why invite potential damage was my thinking.

The keel guard is cheap, installs easily and works well.

I recommend putting a hamby on your boat. They have a lifetime warranty. You can rest the boat on the concrete boat ramp with no issues. When I bought the boat, there was some keel damage from the previous owner beaching it. The hamby sealed it up real nice..
Cost is ~$500

Sounds like I need to install one of these keel protectors. Since I already have a keel guard kit, I guess i'll be going this route. Thanks for the feedback!

Is it easy to install? My boat is at the dealer right now.. should I have them isntall one?

I do know that the Hamby's have to be installed by an authorized dealer for the lifetime warranty. At least that is what my dealer told me.

Pretty easy took about 45 min with a beer between each step, and several more later. I would have another set of hands if you can, its very helpful.
