Just thinking about 2 rebuilt motors

I'm at the loading dock waiting on some cargo to be loaded and was thinking about, Getting 2 rebuilt short blocks this winter just for spares. I know the cobras can take upto 300hp

. So would 350hp motors really hurt them that bad ??. If not where would you buy from and why..

It's not horsepower it's torque. I've seen drives rated for 1,000 horsepower be destroyed by hugely torquey 800HP V8s at midrange cruise speeds.

Engines do not do well sitting idle. Depending on how you preserve and store your spares, and the length of time you store them, will determine their condition when you try to install them. Overall, you might want to think more about this.

I think the age/wear of your existing drives would be the main concern.
A nice pair of 6.2s with Bravo IIIs would be a nice setup, but you better prepare to keep that boat for sometime to make it payoff.

Whooooaaa. Hang on there Todd. I'm just looking at a backup plan on the motors, They ran great so far at 617hrs in one season. :smt038

I'd hate to see your fuel bill if those hours are correct.
I would not buy re-manufactured engines becouse you don't know if they were fresh water cooled or raw water cooled and if they were the later how long before the blocks rot out.
This was my experance 8 years ago so I just rebuilt the engines that were in my boat and they still run great.

You need to redistribute some of that wealth my way if you are buying 'backup' engines! ;-)
 
Rebuilt small short blocks aren't all that expensive. Probably can get two for the price of one complete refit bravo drive. ... with change left over.

Yes i am and did it. I took the summer off after Denise died. I went out of control partying and spent way to much $$ . :smt021. I'm taking next summer off too. No i'm not rich but doing ok. I work when i want to. I plan on going to Canada to meet some friends up there at Killarnery by boat.
