The wife and I love our 300 da, it has been the perfect boat for us and the style of the Sundancers in the late 80's is second to none. I have never seen a 1988 340, so I decided to have a look at the specs and see what the differences are.
I had a look at the Sea Ray site and here are the specs I found.

It appears the sport cruiser solved the problem of fuel prices back in the late 80's. The fuel cap is 239 gallons but you have 242 gallons of usable fuel. This model produces 3 gallons every time you fill it sure wish that was still available.

Well Sea Ray IS a magical company. For instance with a wave of it's wizardly wand, it increased the lengths of it's boats somehow without changing anything. The 36DB because a 390DB, etc. I'm not surprised that they could create 3 gallons of gas out of thin air.

I love my 300 Sundancer, but the 340's are nice too.
I had a chance to buy one at a good price two years ago but passed it up.
As much as I liked the extra floor space in the cabin, the downside for me was the extra gas with the big blocks and the straight inboards in the very shallow water around here. It didn't make sense to move up to a boat with those two things and not get a seperate shower stall. The larger berths fore and aft would have been nice though.

There is a late 80's 340 Express in a slip behind me. big blocks, well kept, always under a covered slip, she's a bute... and it's for sale, owned by a motivated retired couple. I love the lines, but she doesn't have air or a gen....

You are only 1/2 thru with the specs comparison..............look at the 1988-1990 390EC's next. Sea Ray's most popular boat, ever and there are a number of reasons.

+1 to what Frank said. There is no comparison between a 340 and a 390.

There's no comparison between the 390 EC and any other Sea Ray!!:grin::grin::grin::grin::grin::grin::grin::grin::grin::grin:

HAve to agree with Pietro. Our family had a 1989 390. I would skip right over from my 300 to a 390 right now If I could afford to! Still one of the prettiest boats on the water no matter how old they are getting. Just a great classic!

A 390 won't fit in my slip and I am not ready to part with my 300da, it's just to damn pretty. The boat we really like is the 93 era 440, what a great looking boat but that has to wait till I retire and move to Georgian Bay. The hull on the 440 is something I've been told that you have to carefully look at. The 390 might be an alternative to the 440 we will just have to see, wonder if either of them can produce 3 gallons of fuel when you fill it.

390 has the great lines, it looks like a boat. Is it a classic, couldn't say . I wish I had a new one that didn't have 1 hr on it with a pair of Cummings in it...Rip
