I finally got a gtereo installed on my Searay. Hadn't had one since the 8-track it came with. I bought the SB651's and they sound great. I'm curious though, how well they will weather the elements. The first set was insralled on the flybridge. I've previously used most West Marine Premium sereis, and they had a pretty substantial cover plate on them. The polks look nice but don't have much protection from the elements. How long have they lasted for you? If they are weather worthy I plan on putting two more in the cockpit. If they don't last in the weather I will move them to the main cabin (V-berth, and look for something else.

Thanks
john

The cones will handle the elements just fine, however, the grills are so open, they can easily be punctured, rendering the speakers useless. My neighbor has had polks on his fly bridge and cockpit for 3 years, and they still sound as good as new. He did buy some aftermarket covers for them, so they can't get accidently damaged.

thanks!
Any idea what covers he bought? will any 6.5" cover do?

After discovering that my Clarions had dissolved, a friend recommended that I install Polk db6501's. I put them in about 3 weeks ago. The sound is fantastic. The covers do have me a bit concerned, but quite frankly, they just look too cool to set aside.

I think the sun is probably the biggest threat. Keep them shaded.

I just installed my Polk 651's last weekend and they sound great!! Huge improvment over the Clarions that came with the boat.

I had 6501s in my car a couple years ago and they were mutilated by the direct sunlight on the rear dash after only 2 years
