Spent some time cleaning up the boat today and could not believe the amount of junk the admiral had hauled aboard....

My son and I counted 58 bottles of sunscreen, about half of them not even opened!

Five bottles of ketchup, 10 packs of powdered mashed potatoes, about 40 servings of oatmeal.

Usually the galley cabinets are my wife's domain but I think I cleared out 200 lbs of junk today.

Now there's more room for beer!

hahaha!!! that cracks me up, i always say to the guy's on my dock on Fri night when i come walking down with the second cart load of $hit that my wife brings aboard that i need another slip and a barge right next to me. although she is trying her best to take care of us you would not belive....well i guess you would, how much accumulates over a season..............

Kevin,

That's funny!! Hey noticed you are in Ozona, are you at Home Port Marina?

Just wait until you've owned the boat about 10 years! I believe I can make a case for cost justifying a trade every 3 years on reduced fuel consumption alone because we'd be forced to clean out the junk more frequently.

Frank - we're right at the four year mark so by my calculations you may have as many as 145 bottles of sunscreen!

Mike - yep, HomePort , C-Dock. You there as well? Are you one of the 38DAs on the courtesy docks north of the fuel pumps?

i can relate to the amount of junk that accumulates... With the admiral and 2 daughters (8 and 5), the amount of "stuff" that makes it onboard is almost frightening.

Btw, i must compliment you on your boat name. ;)

Mike

Ours is for sale. We showed it 2 months ago. One day prior we went down to clean her out. We filled up my wifes XC70 Volvo (wagon) and my 4 door car. I was amazed at how much stuff had accumulated over 3 seasons.

Eight years on my 270... could not believe the amount I off loaded to trade her in this fall! :wow:

We unload every year prior to winter layup. The first year we had a big boat, the 250 DA, we unloaded 18 grocery bags full of food! We had enough to live on for a month and the cupboard and closets were full of food from the boat. She used to complain about how hard it was to get ready for a weekend. Now we only replace what we emptied and life is a whole lot easier. Less stuff goes on board and it's easier to clean in the fall. But that first year I think we packed EVERY storage comparment full of food, toys, clothes, towels, dogs, sleeping stuff, entertainment stuff and stuff we found. It was ridiculous! I wish I had taken pictures! The boat planed faster the following year because we had the equivalent of three or four fewer bodies on board!!

We had our 260 for 1 year. When I off-loaded I filled my F-250's bed and the crew cab!!!! It was like a clown car at the circus, stuff just kept coming off!!!!!!!

We go thru the realization process every year.

Our issue is we are a family of 5, 3 kids, and participate in a variety of activities.

I go thru each compartment and ask myself, did we use this item over the year? If we use it then it stays onboard. If not, then ask yourself if it’s a safety item. If the answer to both is no then off it goes.

Our boat if full but it’s actually full of stuff we use.

I think a majority of us can relate. I converted to the plastic bin system a couple of years ago. Buy them from the dollar store. I actually print out the labels for the bins so they look good too. Almost everything goes in a labeled plastic shoe box size lock top bin. So we have breakfast bin(s), lunch bin(s), dog food/treat bin, coffee bin, rice bin, spaghetti/noodle bin, soup bin, fishing bin(s), paper bin, plastic ware bin, candy/snack bin, and a few others I can not recall. If they don't fit in the bin, they don't go on the boat. (Our sunscreen/lotions are only allowed in the head on the shelf.)

I can remove stuff for just a fishing trip or add them as we go. They get stored on a shelf in the garage when not on the boat.

We still manage to "gather" but nothing like we use to do...
