Anyone planning on going to the Air Show this year? We went last year and it was a lot of fun. No Thunderbirds this year, but The F-22 and A-10 Thunderbolt II will be there

I think our plan right now is to go on Saturday if anyone wants to raft-up.

Greg

Is you plan to head out early Sat morning to arrive by 10:00? or are you thinking about staying on the hook over night into Sunday?

I think we may have guests with us, so probably just get there by 10 and leave that evening. Although that may change, if it turns out they can't go, or want to spend the night. What are your plans?

What are your plans?

I didn't have any until I read your post  If the weather looks good and the wife and kids are up for it, I would leave early Sat morning (7:00 am?) to get there before 11:00 and then possibly stay on the hook over night and come back Sunday morning. I would be leaving from Brick heading out of the Manasquan/Point Pleasant inlet. My biggest concern is that we have a new dog that gets car sick every time he is in the car and we haven't tested his sea legs yet. Bouncing him around on the ocean for 2 hours and then exposing him to fighter jets screaming over head, may make for a miserable trip for him and ultimately for the rest of us.

I need to talk it over with the crew and will get back to you.

I'll most likely be there as well, as I've done every year.....Not sure what day, tho, but I'll keep an eye out, and the radio on!

we do it every year and would be interested too

This is the firat year we've ever owned a boat that we DON'T have a soccer tournament out of state for Memorial Day weekend. We're planning on being at Watch Hill but are thinking of pulling out Saturday morning and heading over for the show. I'll let you know as we get closer if we're going to make it. If so, I'd be up for a raft up. I've heard Zachs can be very shallow and turns into a zoo at the end of the show.

Lets plan on a raft up for Saturday then. Last year was my first year there, it was a lot of fun, it was pretty crowded but it wasn't that bad. We left pretty late, so maybe most of the traffic had left.

For this year, I'm still not sure if we are spending the night there or not.

Right now it looks like the weather will be good.

Shallow, Nah... it's not that bad.

bmac - any idea how far of a ride it is from WH to to he show. I have a MUCH smaller boat than you and was wondering if it would be safe to make that trip.

It takes about 1h45m-2hrs from WH to Jones Inlet (this was cruising at around 26mph on my 320DA), so I guess you can get to Zach's around 1h15m-1h30m.

Alex, how long is it going to take for you to get to Zach's Bay for our raft-up on Saturday?

I think Alex has it right. I would think it's about 25-30 miles between the two. If you think going to Watch Hill is safe in your boat then it's pretty much the same exposures going to Zachs Bay, jut likely more traffic. I would think you'd be fine, unless the GSB is really choppy that day, in which case it might be uncomfortable, but not necessarily unsafe.

Hey Greg,

I really would love to participate and approached admiral, but there're two things that's stopping us. 1-we had plans for the weekend and 2-she doesn't want to be near the area with so many planes flying over our heads. She's not comfortable with planes in general, so I'm not going to fight this battle. I'm sure there will be another day we can raftup at Zach's.

As for the time, it's about just under 3hrs from Chadwick Island (Mantolocking Bridge area) via Manasquan Inlet to Jones Inlet and I guess another 15min from JI to Zach's Bay.

Sorry I'll miss the party. Have a great time guys and take lots of pictures to share.

Thanks Alex and bmac - My boat is in Center Moriches and have made the Watch Hill trip many times which takes just under an hour. Not sure the Admiral will be up for a 2 - 2/12 cruise the the show but we shall see. Thanks again.

for anyone coming from NJ,why would you not stay on the ocean side if the weather cooperates.would think it would take lots of time off your ride and much less stressful then dealing with the dummies in Zachs.LAst year we anchored just outside of Zachs and had someone anchor on top of us.spent the time fending him off me and listening to his wife ***** about us being to close when I was there first.
