jiggle the keys while cranking, it starts right up!!

What gives? I have a 1998 270 Sundancer with a merc 454 w B3 that I just had to replace the starter on. I just discovered today that the ignition swith has a grimlin in it! It starts right up and runs like a top and then I turn it off and immediated try to start it and it just cranks and doesn't start! I noticed if I put pressure on the key while cranking I will hear a faint tone and the engine fires right up! Is this a fualty ignition switch? how much are they can I replace this myself?:huh:

Sounds like a problem at the helm. I bet Marine Max has it and two keys for $30 or so. It is really simple to replace, a couple of quick wire connections in back and a retaining nut and you are d-u-n.

Just make sure you hook the wires back up the same way. They are colorcode, but the new one may have more places to connect the wires than your old one. A digital picture when you start taking it a part is worth a million words.
