So here's one we never encountered before. My kid usually man's the chain locker to monitor the chain and rode in or out keep it from knotting or twisting etc... also more to just give him a job so he feels like he is contributing. Today he guided the rode in and turns out a jellyfish was pulled up along the rode (invisible to all) and he got a few stings on his hand. Lesson apparently is to wear gloves if handling rode.
 
Something we definitely never think about in the Great Lakes. Hope little guy recovers quick
 
That is an interesting event. I try to have someone on the bow and use our fresh water line to rinse the rode and chain as it is coming up. This helps remove some of the salt and also cleans it before it goes back into the hole.
