Jeep Commander - Anybody have one?

I gave up on the Tahoe and Yukon, at least for right now. My buddy bought one a month ago that listed at $44K or so for about $32K with the 72 months of 0% financing. So that is my benchmark on a '08 Yukon. I have brought that to all the dealers around here, including the one that sold to him, but apparently that deal is not out there right now. It may be again next week for all they know, but not now.

So I get an email from the Jeep dealer about their specials for the next 2 days. They do have this deal going right now. A 44K Commander Limited with all the doodads I want on it for $31 something. They also have the 0% rate and 72 month financing. I have sat in this SUV and liked it, like how they look too. So anybody have one? Any regrets?

I looked at one before I got my 3rd Expedition. I gave up on it due to some of their initial quality problems and then Chrysler was sold so I was unsure of their long term survivability. Have you considered the Expedition? The new model has been fantastic and is world's ahead of the 99 and 03 I had previously. With the 6spd auto I'm getting 14-15 around town and 18-21 on the hwy. Actually following a school bus on a field trip at 55mph I got 25mpg. The power fold 3rd row is fantastic and eliminates the need to remove the seat for additional cargo room. The 2nd row captain's chairs are nice and separate my 2 kids although they still manage to screw with each other. You can find good deals on these things and if you go this route you can most likely get x-plan pricing which is basically invoice. This site has the builder capability and provides you with the msrp and the price you can expect to pay - before any additional deals.

Also - have you look at any used SUV's? It's certainly a buyer's market.

Jim...no ownership of the Commander...but I did own a Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd, for about 6.5 years. I got rid of it about 8 months ago....it fell apart very quickly. If the Commander has the V8...which my Grand Cherokee did... you will get about the same gas mileage from the Tahoe/Yukon....and have a bigger vehicle. My recommendation..wait for a deal on the Yukon.

This one has a Hemi in it. Probably not the same one you had. Our last Jeep lasted for 250K miles until we sold it. Probably still going strong. Gas mileage sucked though. The dash on this is kind of cheap looking. I like the Yukon dash much better. But the Jeep has some nice merits too. The hard drive system, the 3 skylights, DVD system for our soon-to-be-here kid (which is why we are getting a new car in the first place). The Jeep is equipped about like a decked out 55K Denali. Ahhhh... so many damn choices...

My Jeep Wrangler is still going strong after 10 years. The only thing i've had to fix are some stabilizer bars when I drove over some railroad ties. And my exhaust system when I rolled over a boulder. Gas mileage does suck though.

Jim....mine did not have the HEMI.... The HEMI is something else you might check out...I have heard they need to have a "$500 tuneup" every 25-30k miles. I don't want to sound like I am Jeep bashing...this was our 2nd one....and I love Jeeps. The one I got rid of was of the 99-2004 variety of Grand Cherokee...which needed new front brakes and rotors every 30-35K miles. I put 3 new radiators in it.....it only had 115K miles when I got rid of it. The Commanders are great looking vehicles.

A friend of the family has a Commander and has not had a bit of trouble in the two years that they have owned it.

I've rented a Commander for a family vacation to Lake Tahoe and the surrounding ski areas. It hauled us and our gear with no problems at altitude or on steep grades, just as you'd expect from a Jeep. I don't remember the specifric gas mileage, but it didn't seem out of line.

Years ago I owned a Cherokee, whch seemed bulletproof; sold it after 130k miles to a son's friend, and last I heard it had 250k or so miles on it.

Jim I work for Ford. I can get you an X plan if you want a Expediton. I can fax you a invoice for which ever model you want. Just let me know. Jim

Are you kidding me with those numbers? At those kinds of burn rates, the reduction in my fuel burn (I do about 1,000 miles a week) would contribute quite a bit toward the cost of a new truck. The only downside is I would miss seeing how far I could drive my old Navigator, which is in the 290,000 mile area.

Best regards,
Frank

Thank you for the offer. I really appreciate it. I just got home from buying the Jeep. Got it for about 14K off the sticker but no 0% financing. Negotiating was actually pretty fun because they knew I was willing to walk.

I see you've been reading FWebsters posts. hahaha.
