I have to admint...I've seen this acronym a bunch and I understand the meaning but I just dont know what ITIS is 'short' for - please help...

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/-itis

-itis
a suffix used in pathological terms that denote inflammation of an organ (bronchitis; gastritis; neuritis) and hence, in extended senses, nouns denoting abnormal states or conditions, excesses, tendencies, obsessions, etc. (telephonitis; baseballitis).

And whether it's two foot or ten foot ITIS............it's incurable.

ITIS is probably something VERY easy to catch at a boat show!

The Short part of itis is what gets you! It's rare to see someone looking for a smaller boat, but it happens.

Although there is no cure the below will help with the symptoms:

Do’s:

Wax your boat from stem to stern. Now imagine how much more work it would be to wax a bigger boat.

Fill up with gas and pay cash. Now imagine how much bigger the bill will be if you were fueling up a bigger boat.

Read some gloom and doom predictions about the economy, the world, peak oil theory, etc.

Get an insurance quote for your dream boat.

Ask the local marina what the word ‘yard fees’ means and get a quote for yard fees.

Don’ts:
Don’t go out on a windy day with the family. They will want a bigger boat for the improvement in ride.

Don’t go on a friend’s bigger boat where the friend had paid and prepped everything in advanced giving you the illusion that only the boating part is involved in a larger boat.

Don’t get all psychological in your thought with things like “Well, some day I’m going to die so I may as well have some fun while I’m here.

Finally, if you are a religious person don’t read Matthew 14:22 where Jesus said “take the boat out.” He obviously thought Boating to be critical to the spiritual, moral, and mental well being of every person.

The "itis" is clearly a Social Disease. Interaction with others involved in this lifestyle greatly increases the chances of catching it. The symptoms are similar to those of depression and can often be psychosomatic.
