Re: Cruise ship sinks in Italy...

A recursive dive cruise....take a cruise to a dive location and the cruise becomes the dive location.....2 for 1

Re: Cruise ship sinks in Italy...

I heard they did some "cool mods" before the cruise.

Re: Cruise ship sinks in Italy...

I am thinking it did hit the island. The shallow, underwater part of the island.

Re: Cruise ship sinks in Italy...

I wonder if his props hit first?

Re: Cruise ship sinks in Italy...

Dummy... the props are not exposed to the water. DuH!

Re: Cruise ship sinks in Italy...

I've seen some of the folks on those cruise ships...the ones that don't leave the buffet line....They could make the bow sit a little low you know!!!!

Re: Cruise ship sinks in Italy...

Maybe they put the dessert trays on one side of the ship and they all rushed to that side...

Note for Liberty Landing:
Spread the food around on the lightship

Re: Cruise ship sinks in Italy...

What a sensless accident and loss of life.... I just don't understand how the crew can let things like this happen?

Your thought may be will placed. Here's a Congressman who thinks a whole island can flip over.

Re: Cruise ship sinks in Italy...

That was no "sand bar" that they hit. That was a reef of jagged rocks. I agree, they did hit the submerged part of the island. They had no business being so close!

Re: Cruise ship sinks in Italy...

How sad and whats even worse is the training for evacuation and life boat assignments were to take place the following day.....WTF

Re: Cruise ship sinks in Italy...

Yup, 165 Meters worth of hull opening on the port side. It will be interesting to see where it hit the rocks. I can't wait to see how the Captain explains this. $850M boat......

Re: Cruise ship sinks in Italy...

One of the pictures show a huge boulder hanging out of the side. I see the planes were out. How fast were they sailing to need them extended? But hey it was night and everything.

Re: Cruise ship sinks in Italy...

3 people died and 70 are lost.
The captain said they hit an unmarked rock and he decided to take the ship in shallow waters.

I know the area and there are no rocks around that island, only very very close to shore. There's something weird..

FYI: when the ship was launched, the champagne bottle did't break!

Re: Cruise ship sinks in Italy...

That is kind of puzzling that the captain said that he took the ship in closer to shore after it hit something. The picture that I saw showed that the stabilizer was extended on the port side, midships. My understanding is that those stabilizers automatically retract when the ship speed is below 5 knots, I believe. Seems like if he was bringing the ship in closer to shore, he would have the speed reduced to well below 5 knots.
