There are many out there who say that violent video games don't have an impact on young minds.

Don't believe them. I was a cop back in the days when James Carradine and others were making kung-fu movies. All the kids you'd see playing in the yards or on the streets weren't playing basketball or baseball, they were practicing their kung-fu moves, play acting what they'd seen in the movies.

We live in a very sick society where guts and gore are glorified in movies, on TV, in video games and online. Only when that sick shi! comes to an end can we ever hope to get started down the right path.

John Wayne...Green Berets. Extreme violence for the times. That was what...early 70's. no different than a video game in this day and age.

Access to all kinds of content is exponentially easier now than ever. Video games have no more affect than movies or television and You Tube. Transformers was on tv the other day. I thought a pretty cool movie to watch. That was until my 4 year old grandson came into the room.

Just like booze and dope, the crazies will find a way to access the crap there is in society.

If someone was to ban video games then the ***** would be an infringement on freedom of choice or expression. Until society makes up its collective mind....

ok...I'm done and frustrated at the same time.

Well there is one aspect I learned while young was that for the most part the human race is mostly meat eaters, and at a young age I learned that taking the life of an animal was no pleasureful doing but a necessity. This is something many of today's youth have never experienced, all is fantasy. Plus there are other aspects as hard work just to be able to eat, personal responsibility. As a kid most kids in my time aspired to be soldiers, sailors, police men, doctors, teachers. not a lazy street thug, gangster.

One aspect we learned early on was discipline, and that not everyone receives a trophy, trophies took trial and effort, and much personal discipline. Just look at many folks today, obesity is running rampant.

Naturally not all fit into this category, but the numbers who do is rapidly growing. Another down fall is the mental laziness, kids are graduated today who are not even prepared for college, many have to take prep classes. Many public schools have lowered their GPA's so that hopefully the graduation rate will increase so the can get more state and federal money.

We have gotten away from "no gain without pain," and if "you do the crime you do the time."

At the current rate I do not see the USA lasting near as long as Rome did before it fail, once a nation's sovereignty is gone what do we have? Just what do we need the DHS for? What is the purpose of the National Guard and military reserves who work in tandem with the local and state police.

I am all against terrorism and terrorists, but just what is going to happen? Is an army of terrorists going to attach? Even God forbid another 911 event happens, then what? You only need folks to cordon off the area, again the National Guard and military reserves who work in tandem with the local and state police. So why armored vehicles and drone, if you do need a drone, hell cannot the Air Force fly one to where needed?

No, but things sure gives the appearance of a secret police being created, what next bounties for neighbors ratting their own neighbors, same as happens and has happened under many dictators. Pissed at you neighbor, rat them in about something.

I for one do not like the way I see the USA headed and I do what I can, mostly write representatives, and talk with others.

This can happen today if they have kids. Just call Child Social Services and they can pretty much enter a home with no warrant to inspect the premises. All in the safety of children. May vary by state

So technically using this example with all the laws we have no one would ever be hurt or killed. Gee no more traffic accidents, assaults, robberies, home invasions, murders. I mean these laws work as well as a ban? I think not. I will just keep my guns.

What I would like to be able to see is the actual police and autopsy reports, not as a morbid item, but to see the actual findings, e.g. was the rifle actually in the trunk as has been reported, and just what caliber rounds were recovered? This is/was a very tragic event, but even so existing laws were all broken.

I do not believe the media comments, but I do know I can read.

How many in America since 1997?

Its a cultural thing - I love shooting guns, I used to own guns.

Now I don't and my life is no better or worse for it.

The right to bear arms is in our constitution as written by our founding fathers. You want to see chaos? Just try banning guns! By the way, I don't currently own a gun but am not opposed to getting one as I am not anti-gun either.

Pyscho's are psycho's, no matter where you are or how you slice it. If it's not guns then they will use fertilizer & diesel fuel to make a bomb (Like the one that was used by Timmothy Mcveigh in Oklahoma City) or malatov cocktails. You can't tell people not to feed thier lawns or drive their vehicles, so banning these items is out. Next it will be machetes and swords, hell, the twin towers were brought down with BOXCUTTERS!!! These scumbags will find a way to inflict mayhem on unsuspecting innocents regarless of what laws are in place.

I respect your thoughts on this and am glad it is working for you in Australia, I just don't think it would work here.
