You did good Carp. Curious about something you said, he towed 20 miles for haulout? We got marinas every 1/4 mile. Are they really that far apart?

Yep, closest is ten miles away by water that has hauling ability but they don’t have mechanics on staff. You did good Carp. Curious about something you said, he towed 20 miles for haulout? We got marinas every 1/4 mile. Are they really that far apart?
A week ago at Willow Berm marina a 50’ sea ray went down in the slip. Reportedly a intake hose on the generator. I believe it just came in for annual summer visit. Things happen, sorry for your dock mate.So we retreated to the boat for a few days to escape the crazy heat wave affecting Nor Cal this week. Benicia enjoys the cool marine air and being only 30 minutes from the ranch is 20 to 30 degrees cooler. This morning I noticed a new dock neighbor's boat a Maxum 3200 sitting low in the water. It was about five inches above the bottom paint water line. I knew the owner lives 2 hours away and was not on board so I boarded the boat to see if I could manually activate his bilge pump. His batteries had submerged and were drained. I called the Harbor Master and his crew brought a trash pump right away and soon the boat was pumped out. I called the owner and he freaked out and jumped in his car to come deal with the after math. Water had inundated the ER and the aft cabin and as far forward as the galley.
Upon investigation, he found a broken ground wire at the aft bilge pump. It had pulled from a butt splice as if someone had stepped on the wire bundle. On Sunday he inspected the bilge after a cruise and found a small amount of water and ran the pump to drain and then stayed an extra hour to ensure there was no active leak.
Just goes to show you that even when you think you are doing things right stuff just happens. This will surely cost the insurance company $15,000 and him a lost summer boating season.
Carpe Diem
Wow, I had not heard of that one and word usually travels fast in these parts!A week ago at Willow Berm marina a 50’ sea ray went down in the slip. Reportedly a intake hose on the generator. I believe it just came in for annual summer visit. Things happen, sorry for your dock mate.

Update on the Maxum: It turns out that the water was coming in from the the screw holes that should hold the trim tabs on. When the boat was hauled they found the port trim tab missing completely with all the screws having pulled or fallen out. Boat was purchased in April with a haul out survey. Owner doesn't recall hitting anything. He is not enjoying his experience with the yard project manager and adjuster. He is a Greek immigrant/ microbiologist and not understanding the cozy relationship the yard has with the adjuster seemingly running up the investigative labor allowance on this loss. I told him to sit back and just let the process play out. I told him that if he gets sideways with the yard management, he will be the only unhappy one in the end.
is the info sent cellular or WiFi. I get very poor cell service. Thanks for the info.Boat monitoring is getting more affordable
I have the cortex by vesper new vhf ais / monitoring on my 410
I get alarms sent to my phone watch or iPad 24/7 regarding power drop or high water alarm or set up for when any float switch comes on
It’s great peace of mind for situations like this
cell based...Sounds like good advice.

Nothing much sadder than a nice boat sinking. We had a boat sinking in our marina 2 weeks ago. An old Bertram I think. Marina staff threw pump out hose in until fire dept and coast guard could get a pump into it.
I believe that it’s “90% of recreational boats that sink, sink in the slip”, not “90% of recreational boats sunk in the slip “. Big difference…I read in the BoatUS magazine couple months ago that like 90% of recreational boats sink in their slips. Something like that.
