It’s Army Navy week!

We always kinda looked down on the other services!

Runners from the four services approach a hurdle on the obstacle course. The Army guy jumped it, the Marine Corps Guy did a full press with his arms and flipped over it, the Navy guy went under it, and the Air Force guy walked around it...’nuff said!

This was the mid-50's? His homeport would have been Villefranche, a small town just outside Monaco on the Riviera. The flagship was there until France bailed out of NATO, then moved to Naples, a considerable step down.
Interesting he has a Springfield '03. I didn't realize the Navy had not gone to the M1 by then but not surprised since the service is usually at least one small-arms weapon generation behind the rest of the services. When I was in we used M14s at least up to the 1990's. But, we did also still had Thompson sub-machine guns in the 70's which were a lot of fun.

i seemed to remember in the 60’s we drilled with Springfield’s in NROTC!!

It's always electrifying when Army-Navy week rolls around, bringing with it that unique mix of rivalry and camaraderie. Even though this thread is a couple of years old, the spirit of the week doesn't age. Whether you're rooting for the Army Black Knights or the Navy Midshipmen, it's all about the honor and tradition of the game. Speaking of Navy, there's a page I stumbled upon recently, https://www.afaho.net/kenya-navy-recruitment/, which has some interesting info on Navy recruitment. Might be of interest to anyone looking into a career with the Navy.
