I went to check my a/c this weekend in my guest cabin and noticed it was not coming on. When it cycles on the compressor turns on and then after about a second it immediately shuts off. It will do this three times and then it gives me a HI/PS code.

I turned he unit off for several hours and tried again. Same thing happens. It doesn't have time to build up hi pressure before it turns off. I am wondering if my compressor is locked up.

I have added a few pictures and a video.

try cleaning the line from the pump to the coil . There is so much crap in the river im on I have to flush it out 2 times a year.

Steve, that's lack of water to that unit. Ours is always clogging up. Under the lower bed against the hull, you will see a T fitting to serve that unit. Start there, clean the T and the hoses going thru that unit. We acid clean our whole system 2 times per year.

Great hanks I will give that a go. I thought if it was a water issue I would have to wait a few minutes before the unit shut down

If yours is like ours, the is some water trickling through, but not enough to keep it going.

I have put slow dissolving chlorine tabs (1 inch ) in strainer with great success. Both my systems were 19 years old and cranked out 55 degree air on the hottest days and 105 on the cold ones.

Hello Steve-
I had a similar issue on my 460 last year. I flushed the lines and still the main salon AC would not work unless the master SR AC was on. I traced the problem to a relay which wasn't turning the circulation pump on, hence no water and no AC. Does your circulation pump turn on first before you get the HI warning on your panel?

Good luck!

Our 500 has a separate breaker for the AC pump on the main panel. Pump must be on for any AC to work. In our situation the pump runs 24/7 and does not cycle with each AC unit.

That's interesting. I have a separate breaker on the panel, too, but it is only running if the AC/Heat is on at the controller. Since it was a bugger to trace the issue, I thought maybe this could be his issue, too.

I actually talked to our local marine AC people about switching the pump to run only when a unit is calling for it. He said our way was a much better set up, since the pump is not shutting down when one unit shuts off and having to start, possibly in seconds when another unit calls for it. Made sense to me, he said the pump will last much longer not having to cycle all the time.

Update on cooling system, I added a 1" tablet of chlorine into my strainer and after a day the unit began to run for exactly 2 minutes and then quits again. It fires back up after 30 minutes and quits again. Now I am getting a low/ps error message.

I tried another tablet and it made no difference this time. I am assuming I need to flush the system good. What do you guys suggest on a fresh water lake?

Thanks in advance
Steve

Sometimes the blockage is at the hull opening. As the stuff breaks loose it can clog there. I tried a coat hanger while swimming and that broke it free.

I also filled the strainer on mine was about 5 one inch tablets.

I am getting great flow through the other two units. It is just the unit it in the guest berth that is giving me some trouble. So the flow out of the two through halls is great unless it is plugged up from the unit in the guest berth to the through hall. I think the master berth and the guest berth share the same through hull

For flushing, we use Barnacle Buster, they suggest flushing the system in reverse flow. I do one unit at a time. I use a 12 volt fresh water pump to circulate. I assume you have not had issues last year. Do you know what size pump you have. Ours has a 3000 GPH pump, so plenty of water, but I have seen some 500s with only 1000 GHP pumps. Have you checked air filters also.

Those chlorine tablets can be dangerous and cause serious corrosion. If they say Tri-Chlor or Di-Chlor on them they can kill you with the chlorine gas they generate. Bromide tablets are much safer, but even then I wouldn't leave them in the strainer on a continual basis.

The chlorine tablets I have used through the years dissolve guite fast because of the constant flow even though they are slow dissolving in a pool strainer. As far as fumes you learn to be quick when doing the install. Barnacle Buster is also a good product.

good luck
