Island hopping

Forgive me please for I am a new member but I was wondering if anyone has some performance data for the larger Sea Ray boats (40-52ft.) I have searched and searched and can't find any range charts for specific speeds anywhere. Is it possible to depart South Florida and island hop all the way down to say Barbados or do these boats just not have the range. Thanks again.

beetlehog,

Welcome to the board. Although I don't have such data for you, I suggest boattest.com, they have all sort of data based on the type of boats they had performed tests. They may not have exact year for the similar boat, but having results for similar vessel will give you pretty good idea. Also, search Sea Ray archives. www.searay.com

Good luck,
Alex.

Welcome aboard Bettlehog. In the lareger Sea Ray's Fuel on board will support about 250 miles between fuel stops. The work your way south float plan would require carrying a lot of deck fuel. The Nauta bladders for use on deck are popular and can be rented.

thanks for the replies and the warm welcome guys. sea ray's archives didn't have any data that i was looking for and boattest.com wanted money to view data. anyway, those were rough numbers that i was sorta stabbing at. 250 miles isn't much. i am guessing that is at fairly fast speeds (25kts). what if you went at say trawler speeds (8-10kts)?

Fuel consumption this past weekend for the old 400DA gasser...

410 DA vs 420 DA vs. 44 DA vs. 43 DA

Since I can't give you real numbers on the larger boats, all I can say is that each boat has a sweet spot (RPMs for MPH or Knts), which gives you best performance and fuel usage. The only way to maximize your range is by going very slow (just above idle speed). Thus anything in between you're loosing performance and burn more fuel. I'm guessing that you need to be more specific on the boat models so others can help you with specific info.
