I 've been watching the water levels at several lakes around the Atlanta area going
one direction, down. Even Lake Oconee has dropped waaay down. How about
Lake Hartwell, Lake Strom Thurmond, Lake Russell? Anyone from out that way with
any good news?

I just had a chat with neighbor across the street. He is moving to Huntsville, AL and says the Alabama lakes are looking a lot like Lanier and Allatoona. But, he says that
Lake Blackshear down Albany, GA way, is FULL. At times it has been overfull this year.
After the dam break 2-3 years ago, the new dam is getting a test of sorts.
Wonder how big a boat you can put in down there?

Lake Hartwell is way down. The corp is predicting a new low for Hartwell about December first. A lot of ramps are closed and the others that I know of you had best be careful.

The local dealer launched a 240 Sundeck about ten days ago at Portman and had a very hard time recovering it. They are worried about next years sales. As John told me people will always boat even if gas is five dollars a gallon, but if there is no water...

The water is low enough that a bulldozier was brought in cut a path so that people could get to the docks. I need to get up there and get some pictures as it sounds a lot like Dave's situation at Lake Wylie.

Next years boat may be limited to the TN trip and trips down to the coast if we do not get some rain.

Paul, I agree with your statement that you may be depending on TN and coastal trip next year unless we get some serious rain. I was at my marina, Port Royalle, last week to get my boat winterized and it's the lowest I have ever seen. They say within a few days Lake Lanier will hit a milestone....the lowest the lake has been since it was made back in the 50's.

I'm looking at taking my boat down to Savannah and boating out of there since that's my home town and where I plan to settle down soon.

Coastal boating is different from lake boating, so I will need to do my homework before hitting the salt water!

As the Governor says....pray for rain!!

Lake Wylie hit it's record low a few weeks back and has completely shut down our Marina for all practical purposes. No boats can get in or out of the Marina and there isn't enough water to even use the forklifts to pull a boat. The lake only recovered a couple of tenths with the rains we have had and the future looks bleak in terms of more rain. Experts say it will take 17 inches of rain to bring the lake back to normal levels. The local water departments have even gone so far as to outlaw planting of ornamental plants or installing sod in yards. All I can say is it looks really bad for all of us folks here in the south. Hopefully we can keep enough water for human consumption but as far as boating goes I don't hold out much hope on our lake or other lakes like Lanier for next year.:smt009:smt009

guy's..please the sky is not falling. Do we see cacti sprouting in the fields yet? were not a desert here in the SE. It'll rain, it'll snow in the mountains, heck were 3 years over do for a whomper snow in Atlanta. The last one in 93 brought 18+ " of snow. It's just natures calender doesn't agree with out schedule.
As for boating next year, i'll make that decision when next year rolls around. Now, I'll get ready for a long winter and find other things to do.

I watched a news blurb about the Great Lakes recently. It would appear that
Lake Superior is experiencing a sort of new "low" also. The pictures of the coastline
look like the ones around Lake Lanier. The weather channel seems to think our
current water problem is due to the "la Nina" current in the Pacific.
The return of the "la Nino" current would bring back the normal precipitation.
And Hurricanes. Drought one way and hurricanes the other.

I went up to Murphy NC on Friday. I could see a dusting of snow on Brasstown Bald. Where I was north of Murphy at about 3000ft there was a dusting in the shady areas.
