My 87 is not white like the newer models today. I heard SR used two colors named "olive" and "oyster". At first glance my 300we looks white, but when all the oxidation is cleaned off its definitely not white.

Im leaning towards oyster, because I would think olive would be more obvious.... anyone an expert on the subject?

I would say your color is "sand." It's very close to what Vikings of that era called "white."

Ah yes I see they offered sand and oyster base colors that year from the archive brochures at searay.com

Sand huh? I sure wouldn't describe it as sand color, but what do I know.

Well, I tried checkin my online parts catalog. But it only goes back to 1989. I don't think this is going to help, but for an '89 300WE it lists (2) options. "White" and "Bige Grey". That's not my typo... but I assume it's supposed to be "Beige Grey".

Did you try Spectrum Color? That would be the place I would recommend getting gel from - if indeed that's what you want. Offhand, I don't even know of another place to get factory-matched gel from. Keep in mind, it probably won't match exactly as gel on a 1989 boat is almost certain to have at least some fading.

oyster was a very light grey in that year.

Actually, sand with brown stripes and a brown sunbrella canvas made the color look like a beige sand color. We tired of that and switched to black stripes and black canvas. When our boat sat next to a friend's Viking I realized the colors were identical. I had always considered his boat to be white and ours beige until we made the switch in stripes and canvas.
