Is changing the name of your boat taboo?

Hello Boaters,

The last boat that I bought was used and it had the name of "Bitchie ll". I thought it was hilarious but my wife didn't like it. Everytime we would travel, people would always point. My wife started getting a complex so I thought I should change the name. I had heard that it was bad luck to change the name, but I changed it anyway to "Mojo Risin". I'm a Doors fan.

Anyway, is it bad luck to change the name? I am in the process of buying a new "used" boat and I am sure I will change the name. Can I keep the same name "Mojo Risin"?
What's the proper etiquette? Please tell me.

It's only taboo if you are superstitious. You can have fun with the re-naming ritual though. As for the name, sure you can use Mojo Risin again -- or consider Mojo Risin II.

I am the 3rd owner of my boat. The first owner named it "Plane 2 Sea" (he was a pilot). The 2nd owner removed the name from the transom and never re-named it. I bought it and named it "Slippery When Wet".

Am I doomed? It did break down on me once already this year. :smt009
