Hi guys , im looking at buying a 1991 -1993 270 / 290 or 280 here in Sydney & need help.

I have looked at the specs sheets on the SR site & have found a few threads in this forum however are still confused.

Can you Please confirm that a 1992 270 is the same as a 1992 290. ?
I can see on the spec sheets that the overall length is the same but the hull it almost a foot longer in the 290 ??? Where is the extra foot? ( cockpit space ?)

Also the 270 & 290 are referred to as wide body here - are all the 270 & 290 of this era the same beam ?

On the spec sheets, does the "dry weight " include the engines ? (blonde)

And finally i notice the 1991 280 has a bigger beam & heavier, Any advise on a preference to the 270/280/290 of 1991.

Thanks very much for any advice

Steve

Hey Steve,

Go to any of the boats for sale sites: http://yachtworld.com or http://www.boattraderonline.com, enter the sizes and years you are interested in and surf away. You will find that sometimes the specs are not accurate, but the selection will give you a wide verity of all the different models and changes of each year. You will also see what the asking prices are starting at around the country.

Just remember one thing ----- survey, survey, survey!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck!

As I understand it, Sea Ray changed the way they measured length for all Sea Rays in 1992 so a 1991 "270" = 1992 "290" - it had to do with whether or not you included the swim platform and the government changed the rules back then.

I have a 1992 29 and its the same model as the 1991 27. Go to the virtual marina and look at my boat compared to "ALL THAT JAZZ" He has a 1991 27. They are great boats and I am very happy with mine. IMHO

I'm not sure if C Ray Crazy's response answered all your questions - or any of your questions. It seems you are confused enough already. The only specs on those sites are the one's put there by the sellers or brokers. And those vary widely.

Searay has marketed the same hull as different sizes from time to time. But, I haven't seen them jump 2 feet. And I don't know that they ever did this in the same model year. It was originally more of a rounding issue where a few extra inches could be considered. In more recent years you have to be careful about swim platforms and anchor pulpits. Almost all boats are today, overstated because the designers have done everything to get to a size without really building the boat.

You also have to be careful that you are comparing the same model, especially since Searay does have more different models than most. I think the Amberjack may give you more boat for the stated size because it has been kept simple for fishing purposes - but it doesn't have all the eye candy of a Sundancer.

Beam size is listed on the Searay site. Dry weight includes the boat as delivered without fuel and water, so engines are included. But it doesn't always state which engines, and options there may be available.

I found this to be true of 310/330's and 350/370's, but as you stated, not in the same year.

I was simply providing Steve with a visual avenue to explore and compare all the different model sizes and years in question. I also stated, the specs in those ads are not always accurate. My intention was to help, not confuse him in any way. Just my 2 cents!

Be safe out there!

What Skip said... this is totally accurate.

I had a 1991 270 DA and there was a 1992-3 290 DA a couple of slips up from me, and the boats were identical in size and layout. The only dfference was in colors, finishes, etc. The 1991 270 DA spec sheet can be found here:
http://www.searay.com/Archives_Manuals/Sea_Ray_Archives/1991/26-35 feet/270DA_SS.pdf

and the 1992 290 DA spec sheet is found here:
http://www.searay.com/Archives_Manuals/Sea_Ray_Archives/1992/26-35 feet/290DA_SS.pdf

Compare for yourself - your intuition is spot on!
