Sorry folks, I do have another thread listed in 'Sports Cruisers' that refers to the leg, but I now wonder if the question should be:

Is the 4.3L (190HP) underpowered for a 1998 29' Sundancer?

We just finished the sea trial and both my husband and I thought it very sluggish. Thought it was the Alpha leg, but posters on other thread suggested it could bt under powered?

Any more thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. We're scheduled for the mechanical check shortly, but will cancel it if most of you think this vessel is under powered.

Many thanks in advance.

my 24' ain't a speed demon @ 280hp
so I would say yes...underpowered IMO

A single in a 29 would be underpowered even if it was a 7.4 i think.

It is not a single, as I said in your other post it is a twin engine boat. 4.3l V6 (190hp X 2). Two motors....two Alpha1 outdrives.

If you think the boat was sluggish and underpowered on the test ride walk away. When you start using the boat after purchase it will most likely have more fuel, water, and gear on it than it did for a test ride. That extra weight will make a sluggish boat an absolute dog.

We have the same boat/setup. It doesn't pop out of the water but we have no problem getting on plane. cruises nicely at 34-3600 rpm (26-28 mph). I wouldn't mind bigger motors and if I have the boat long enough to have to go through a re-power, I'll probably put the V-8's in, but the V-6's haven't prevented me from being able to do what I want to do.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for your help, I appreciate it. We're taking another sea trial with our mechanic; I trust him, so I will heed his advice too. We're not speed demons, but a good point was raised above...how will it run fully loaded. Will let you know the outcome. Thanks again to all.
