Irma is making me nervous

You and me both. I just got back from a hurricane work assignment in Texas and Thursday I will head to a new hurricane work assignment.

Tomorrow I will head down to the dock and turn my boat "into" the waves and unplug everything, hoping for the best while I'm on the newest assignment.

Needless to say, do what you need to do and we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Talked to a friend this morning who has a 38DA he keeps north of Baker Haulover.

He was headed to take the boat north to haul out and go in the barn.

We closed our South Florida office today, sent people to take care of family and property.

Thoughts and prayers for all those in the path.

Mine? My boat is in a boat barn in PC, on a lift on the bottom row. We've made hotel arraignments and UHAUL arrangements with our animals to relocate to Birmingham temporarily. Wife get the car and I get my F350 and head north. Come back to no power for 2-3 weeks. Hardly any gas and ZERO water in stores.

Be careful everyone. Girlfriend's son wife and kid are to be headed here to ride out the storm in NC. Also offered refuge to other friends in Fla.

Looks like the models this morning show that the cold front over N GA may deflect it just off the FL east coast - praying for no direct hit.

Depending on severity, we will load horse trailer with supplies, generators, lumber, tarps, water, etc.... and head south from michigan to cape coral

Much happier with this forecast model.

Doubled up my ropes, deployed the fenders, removed the canvas and took pictures of everything for the insurance company. It's out of my hands now. We rarely take a direct hit in Tampa Bay so I'm not too worried but my thoughts are now with my East Coast brothers and sisters.

Hopefully the cold front is strong and keeps the eye away from land.

hoping and praying for the best.

Me too - I'm in the building at haulover.......its built to withstand cat5........we'll see - my boat is on a low rack, so I hope the surge is not as high as they are saying......could be bad if it comes at high tide...

I've always been curios - what do employers in Florida do when these storms hit? Do employees have to take vacation time or is this unpaid time off they need to plan for? It seems like a couple times each year folks are forced to leave for days at a time. I'm just curious how it works for the average employee/employer down there.

With regard to bottled water in short supply..why don't people just fill up their spare jugs with house tap water 5 days before the storm?

I've heard some fill their clean bathtubs up full before a big one.

I've been given Friday and Monday off for sure and possibly more next week depending on the damage. All paid for by the owner.

They live here too and completely understand the prep work necessary to make it through a storm like this. They expect us to do the preliminary work on our own time, like getting fuel and supplies, but they understand boarding up windows takes time.

My boss is literally the best man I've ever worked for in all my years and he really takes great care of us.

We have a 30 gallon jug of fresh drinking water which was filled up this week. I don't know anyone else with a spare jug so it must be a boater thing. Most just buy the bottled water.

The bath tubs are filled with water just so we can flush the toilets. If we lose water to the house we can still flush by pouring the bathtub water into the toilet.
