Just wanted to pass on that my local Sears had an Extech IR thermometer on sale for $19.99 in case anyone needed to pick up a cheap one for their tool box. I have one while trailering but this will be thrown in my truck glovebox and I can keep the other one in my garage tool box. Great tool to have while on the boat and very handy with checking your trailer tires and hubs.

It is also good for checking your exhaust manifolds and heat risers to see if they are any good or on the way out. Look for hot spots and that will tell you they are starting to get clogged and on the way out.

+1
helped me trace a flapper problem that was causing me to over heat at idle.

Just wanted to add that the time to use the IR is before you have a problem. Take temp measurements of your exhaust and manifolds including your generator when the engine is running properly as a baseline to compare against when you have an overheating problem.

Man after my own heart Love it!!! p.s. does it work I can see us competing for the coldest cooler!!
...and to make sure the ice chest is still keeping our anheuser-busch products nice and cold.

I point mine at the marina ladies beavers & boobies to see how hot they are.
