After getting alternatively excited then intimidated at the prospect of rewiring the Clarion XMD1 to accept an auxiliary input, I have to say this Ipod adapter works just perfectly....and it couldn't be simpler.
Excellent clarity and sound.
I have it mounted right at the helm in my 12V socket.

Looks like a great option. I have never been happy with any FM modulator devices that I have tried as opposed to hardwired. It looks like this is an FM modulator?

Hope it serves you well as it is an easy way to interface the Ipod.

how's that fm modulator working for you? i have one, don't remember the brand, but reception is horrible 60% of the time.

they used to work great and if you have one that is over 6 years old or so not problems but the FCC mandated that the transmit power be cut in half and since then I've had no luck either.

the best one I have found (recommended by another forum member) is the Mobile Black Box. You can set its output up quite high. I use it for getting my TV audio into my stereo system and it works well. My dock neighboors can pick it up as well.

I use the V6000, which is Mono only.

Pretty cool. I like the microphone option. Might come in handy when you are trying to get everyone's attention.

I had two FM transmitters before this oen and you're right...they send out feeble signals and leave a bit to be desired.
BUT, this one really cranks! I'm a musician and very fussy about the sound quality of music I listen to and I wouldn't suggest it if I didn't think it was worthy.
There are two nice features about this one by Belkin:
1)It has the little gooseneck holder to keep the ipod (iphone in my case) rigid, accessible and charged, and with the 12V receptacle right at the helm, it's perfectly located.
2)You push a button at the bottom which tells you which stations are free to broadcast. I then set them (I've only had to use one so far) to my presets on the Clarion and voila!
Having said that, the mobileblackbox sounds interesting as well.
But this is soooooo simple.

I've got the same FM modulator. For an FM modulator it works well. On the boat I have no issues although it isn't strong enough for my fellow boaters to tune into. In the car, a little less so. Closer to more lower powered stations I guess.

I need something like that. I got a sony unit that plugs into the bottom of my Ipod, but I guess the new one's don't charge on the old chargers, so my battery dies really fast, PITA

Clarion also makes an FM modulator that plugs "in line" to the FM antenae cable. I installed one on our boat as the Aux input was already used for the salon DVD player sound. Works great, good sound no interference.

~$30

Takes 10 minutes to install and it works with the iphone 3g/3gs

There is also the Clarion CeNET iPod Interface EA1251B.

(thought i'd drop this into the thread if people were searching for a solution)

Good call. I have a 12V cradle adapter that has the 3.5MM audio plug in but that doesn't work with my stereo. Went to Best Buy and picked up a Dynex 3.5MM to RCA six foot cable for $10. Now that nice cradle will work like a champ!

I've got one of the modulators (griffin) and its always worked great for us.

We were on a beach one time and a couple other boats pulled up pretty close to us.... as the stereo war started to heat up, I politely suggested that if we could agree on some music we could all listen to the same thing. Fortunately they were reasonable in their taste in music, and they were able to pick up the signal just fine.....they even came over to my boat with their ipod later in the day to mix up the tracks

Ehaze....that's an awesome solution...if you have an aux input.
I decided it was too troublesome to try to build one on my Clarion XMD1, which is why I went this route.

I had the local audio/video dealer install an iPod jack at the helm for $80...does not charge the battery, just plugs in the headphone jack and no worrys of interference.
