I'm sure trying to be patient, but here we are into month 4 getting a little ding in the gel coat fixed. Now we're told that they are having to do the entire hull.

I am pretty sure at this point they (dealer) ordered the wrong color to begin with and thats where the problems started.

Will keep ya'll posted and will send pics when we finally get her splashed. :(

What do you mean they are having to do the entire hull? Have you seen what they've done to your boat so far? Something doesn't sound right..

Damn. That stinks. I've been following your saga and I would have one through the roof by now. You are a patient man.

How did they damage your boat? You had it in for service when it happened if I remember correctly. I assume that they used the Valspar Midnight Blue instead of the Ashland Midnight Blue on that repair and put you in your current situation? Are they gonna put a coat of the Valspar blue on the entire hull for you?

I hope it goes well (and quickly).
Michael

Well, just not sure what the hell they did.

Initially we had it in because at the last Aquapalooza we had a smaller boat (SR220) rafted to us. Some a$$hole came flying out of the cove at WOT and the little boat smacked into our gel coat. Ding about the size of a silver dollar. Repair looks great!

However, I think they ordered mediterranean blue, and then found out our hull had midnight blue.

Yes it does suck.

Stan...sorry to hear about all your troubles....I hope they get resolved quickly.

Dark Blue is a very tough color to patch and have it look great. My previous boat (not a Sea Ray) needed some touch up under warranty. The dealer had the gel coat done THREE TIMES before they got a color that matched well (it was all the same color, but with gelcoat, the age of the batch, when it was produced, etc can all impact the final look).

After they got the color patched and repaired properly, they gave me the extra gelcoat in case I ever needed it again. I stored the extra gelcoat indoors in a climate controled area. About six months later, I needed another repair (not under warranty). I used the leftover gelcoat, and it did not match again.

I just remembered that I loved the blue color, but hated trying to keep it looking good.

Good Luck with your repair!!!!!

I was just through that situation. Had factory defects when I purchased my 290 last year some discoloration around the port side windows. It took them 3 months to get it right after I had them send it back and its still not perfect. I just decided to give up and live with it.

Well we were told early yesterday that she's sprayed and sanded and quite possibly she could be splashed today. Late afternoon I'm told, they need to get new vinyl striping. And because the boat was a Marine Max special order (we didn't know that, and not sure that's true) the white vinyl striping has to be custom made!!!!!!!

I bet we don't pull out of the water for a long long time. We are now into month 5!!!

I would be concerned about a couple of things if it were me. If they resparayed with gel coat did they first remove your bottom paint? If not, then you will still have the original gel under that and likely have a "ridge" where they masked and sprayed up to the bottom paint line. Secondly, how thick is this new coat? If it is thin you might have to be concerned about compounding and polishing in the future so you don't wear thru the new coat. Talk to the person who did the spraying so you understand any potential issues here . And lastly, don't let them splash the boat until you can look at it out of the water, It's easier to see how good of a job they did this way. Pay special attention to areas such as the rub rail line and your thru hulls. It is doubtfull they removed the thru hulls (which is the right way to do it) so they probably masked those as well.

Dave,

Thanks so much for that info. I am meeting them at the dealership. Will look it over really good, hell they've had 4 months +, one would think they got it right!

The service guy, whom I trust, told me it looks better than the day she was new!!!! Keeping fingers crossed.
