I've started getting estimates for having the interior redone. I'm looking at having the following done-
two back to back seats rebuilt (rotted wood) and reupholstered
side panels reupholstered
inside the side panels recarpeted
The entire rear bench and back seat reupholstered
Recover the 4 piece dash paneling material
And some bimini top repair and reconfiguring the supports.
I'm leaving the floor in glass because I HATE the mess carpets hold in boat cockpits.

First estimate is $2,000.

How's that compare to your experiences?

Not knowing exactly how much is involved that price does not sound too outrageous from your description. At least based on Michigan pricing - unsure about there.

My experience - get a few estimates and most importantly be sure to see samples of their work.
I had estimates from $1,200 to $2,600 for recovering the entire cabin interior of our 270 Sundancer. The samples of work were very different in quality and the most expensive was not the best.

Best of Luck !!!!

I was planning to look at everyone's work before pulling the trigger on it. I think 3 estimates will be enough to get a good idea. I was expecting it to be $2K...the only wood work required is the two back to back seats. Everything else is just upholstery work.

I second the new, wood free back to backs, but then again I don't really like back to backs, so I recommend new captain's chairs on swivels!! That's about a thousand itself though.

Back-to back seats are relatively inexpensive new, and most are now wood-free.
I looked at those, but mine are mounted on a fiberglass pedastal with storage below and I like the factory look. I've never seen these in a boat where I couldn't tell they were aftermarket. Also, the interior shop is proposing a composite (non-wood) material for the seats.

I prefer the look of captian's chairs too! But one ofthe reasons we bought this boat and sold out Chaparral 28sig was to gain cockpit space AND seating. We can have 8 people in the back of the boat and everyone has somewhere to sit and plenty of room to move around. We would gain floor space with swivels but we have pleanty as it is and we would lose two seats.

Looks to me like your on the right path.

Post before and after pics if you can - I'd like to see the work.
