Two weeks into owning her we've spend nearly every evening and weekend minute at the marina "yanking monkey fur" and removing the glamorous but dated 80's interior.

I'll get some pics up of our progress soon, need to take some new pics when we head down today.

Progress so far:
  1. New vinyl on most of the forward cabin cabinets and trim
  2. New hull liner ceiling is up
    1. Had to do it twice - grrrr - did not line it up right the first time! Second time marked center lines and a line port to starboard on the ceiling. Then marked center line marks on the back of the hull liner AND marked it port/starboard so that we could keep the grain the same direction. Bummer doing it twice but came out right the second time.
  3. Installed LED can lights in the entry to the stateroom
  4. Wired for LED indirect strip lighting in forward stateroom
  5. Replaced bow navigation lights. Wow that was a project! I had to cut a section of the aft wall between the stateroom and head to reach the nuts on the port side and remove the wall of the closet on the starboard side. I wanted to install new LED navigation lights but the pad on the deck and the original holes were all wrong. I found direct replacement lights Attwood ATT-6358G7 and ATT-6358R7 that bolted right into the original holes. Glad I did it now while I have everything torn apart!
  6. Aft Cabin - we are turning the two twin beds into a Cal King bed so there is a lot going on back there. I need to move the drawer package between the old twin beds. It will mount where the full height closet is a base. The closet will become narrower to allow the full emergency window to let light into the stateroom.
    1. Do they make hinges and latches to open the emergency regress window for ventilation? I know it needs to be closed underway but it would be great to have it open for sleeping.

My biggest challenge is with regard to the interior woodwork. Under the trim the grain and color is perfect - clear and beautiful. The rest of the finish is darker, I am guessing due to sun fading? I've tried:
  • cleaning with Murphy's oil soap.
  • Sanding - HUGE mistake! The veneer is VERY thin. I'm and experienced woodworker - I went through the veneer in a heartbeat! (ordered some teak veneer to fix that)

Does anyone have experience with cleaning/brightening the interior woodwork? What can you recommend? I want that beautiful grain she showed when new, but I don't want to overlay everything with new teak veneer.

We can't wait to get her ship shape so we can hang out drinking cocktails and not spending 12 hour days yanking monkey fur!

I'll get pics up soon!
