Got a letter from State Farm, they are dropping SC coastal waters Boats and Homes..

Any recomendations? Progressive was $5000 per year quoted today (which seems nuts to me)

We're at $1200 per year and I just got a quote from Skisafe.com and it's super low (and yes, I changed all the limits to match our current one at BoatUS)... but that makes me worry. Has anyone ever had a claim with these guys? are they reputable when it comes to needing them?

oh wait.. I just read the policy and noticed "Losses caused by a Tropical Depression, Tropical Storm or Hurricane are excluded." can't stomach that living on the NC coast...

Just got one from skisafe, first thing i noticed was the storm exclusion..... Cant do that in Charleston..

BoatUS gave me 2500~ and my wife is a USAA member, and rerated progresive at $2200.. imagine that..

few more calls tomorrow to travlers. MArine underwriters is the best at $1140, but they wont accept my survey, and want me to get it redone by an "approved" surveryor..

At Progressive, I read the fine print on the letters about my policy and found that I had 2 credit hits that were each costing me $275/year. One was because I didn't have any credit history prior to age 20. I told them that I had a phone line with long distance in my dorm room at age 17. That lowered it $275. The other had to be cleared up with my cc company. That lowered it $275. It runs about $2250/year for a 2005 340 and a dinghy with 8HP (not free). My deduct. is down to around $1,000! It's through USAA.

Progressive has 18 steps in relative cost. The last 2 were worth $550. I can't imagine how much it would be with 18 bad marks. It may not be for everyone.

My 03 340 in Wilm., through NBOA is 1106 annually. No one else could even come close.

www.charterlakes.com - ask for April - they are a broker and have been the cheapest I have found with all AAA rated insurers (important). Tell her I sent you - maybe I will get a hat (kidding - but I really have found her to be most helpful).

Have you tired Zurich or Ace - they have been the lowest for me here in WI; don't know about the coast.

Quoting myself to highlight that I live on the coast in Fl and boat 12 months a year, aggressively. My first year cost $3700. The other companies could not come close to that price then, nor to my current costs.

Is there a broker out there that will offer a blanket policy for SR owners?
I know many Formula owners (me included) that use that same broker and we get a large discount.
BTW I was with Skisafe (GEICO), the premium was competitive however the broker cut that premium in half
