Short story, I hit a mudflat hard today. After getting off and getting her running again I got her home. I know I've bent a prop. I have bad vibration on the port side.

She is going to have to come out for inspection. At what point do I call StateFarm?

i'm an insurance agent, the answer to your question is call them as soon as possible and have them come inspect the damage as soon as possible so that your claim will not hold up the repairs to your boat.

Depends on the deductible. It could be a bent prop only. It could be a prop and shaft. Could be the entire running gear V-drive to struts to engine mounts, etc.....

let the mech determine if it's beyond the prop. Go from there.

Steve, should I fore warn them before she is lifted out? It may just be a bent blade (I hope), rudders are fine, but there could be strut and shaft issues. I just won't know till she's lifted and in the air.

I had to slow go it from you're old marina back to Jamestown, 1300/1400 all the way. But lunch was good 

I've managed to tear up my props at least three times in the past two years. Each time I have just had the diver look for any damage and have had the props redone. It cost me $1000 for two prop repairs.

you can always withdraw the claim if the damage is under your deductible, several years ago I had an incident reported the claim and had the boat inspected, looked like there was no damage to the running gear about two months later the stuffing box started leaking the shaft shifted and caused the stuffing box to leak. Travelers had the claim on file and I was able to have the boat repaired without having the adjuster come out to the boat.

Steve I stopped by my agents office. His advice was to NOT make a claim till the boat was out of the water, which worked out well for me.

Somewhere in the muck was a hemp line. It was wrapped around both shafts but hanging from the port shaft and prop. The props are fine,as are the shafts. The Port strut was leaking before the grounding, now that is going to be fixed. The folks at Hampton Marine have got to be some of the best.
