Anyone know of a company that sells an instrument cover that will cover all the instruments and most of the helm to protect from the sun at all please? Currently have it covered with towels but have seen one or two boats with a vinyl type cover that covers all the instruments etc. Wondered if they are all custom made or available off the shelf? Thanks in advance for any help!

the PO of my boat had one made by a local canvas shop....it has snaps to keep it in place....should not be too expensive to have one made...

I did the same for my 290, local canvas shop made a cover just like Cliff's for the helm and I also had a cover made for the spotlight. The spotlight cover just slipped over the light and had an elastic band sewn into the bottom to hold it in place. They used Sunbrella to match my canvas.

Local canvas guy will be your best route.

I am having one made now. I don't want snaps in my helm so i am having him weigh down the edges

Over the years, a helm cover has sometimes been an option from Sea Ray. Whether it was on your model, I do not know. You could check your parts manual - and also check the other years that your model was made. However, I would probably go the custom route so you can cover as much, or as little, as you want.

Don't use vinyl - it won't breathe the way Sunbrella will. Also, it would probably be best to NOT match your dark blue canvas because of heat. Something like a light silver would work well and look good, though. Maybe even some type of heat-reflective (but still breathable) material? Never looked/googled for it, but I gotta imagine that there is some type of Sunbrella-ish material that is also (at least partially) heat reflective?

Thanks everyone for the tips! I thought of vinyl because I saw someone on the dock with a sheet of it thrown over, but am sure upon reflection you're correct Dennis and a breathable Sunbrella will be much better and not in blue:) I really like the idea of a weighted edge too. We're having some more seats recovered soon with a good local canvas guy we have so will ask him to make us one. We do have a white windshield cover we generally use in the summer but it takes some taking down and putting up, so trying to speed things up a bit when we go out. Thanks again! Brenda
