I am looking to install two rod holders towards the back of my 210 Sundeck. Has anybody else done this and if so do you have any pics or words of advice before I go and drill a big hole into my boat?

Do you have a bimini top?

What about a clamp on type of holder that attaches to one of the Bimini poles?

I do have a bimini. One of the purposes of installing the rod holders is for a grill. Will that type of rod holder support a grill?

Do you have the grill already? I've noticed some grills have their own mounting system that just attaches to the gunwale.

The main thing you need to look at is if the area you want to put the rod holders in is larger enough. It's not rocket science to install one, but if you're installing an angled holder, you just need to be double sure before you start drilling. The top of the gunwale MIGHT be wide enough - but then there's the radius corners to take into account.

Magma makes grill mounts that attach directly to the bimini poles (easy on/off). But experiment as sometimes it's awkward to use the grill. Your bimini mounts are likely the older style (3 holes with a pin), so that is good. The newer style mount allows some of the poles to rotate - which wouldn't work with the weight of the grill.

There are also deck/gunwale mounts that can serve double duty - both a rod holder can drop into the mount and the grill. These require a smaller hole to be drilled into the gunwale (than for a rod holder) - I'm positive those would work.

Still other people use a flat base to mount the grill on the platform with a pole. Go to Magma's website - you'll be able to see all of their mounts.
