My pump failed. Ordererd a new one, coming soon. My freah water tank is half full. Does anyone have any tips on installation of the new pump? Not sure if I have to drain the tank or not, hope not. Was looking for instructions but could not find any on the csr search.

No, you do not have to drain the tank. This one's pretty straight forward - you should be able to do this relatively quickly.

Turn the power off to the pump (breaker/switch).
Disconnect the in/out water lines at the pump.
Follow the electrical wires (go back about 3 feet to be sure) to see if there are any quick-connects in the lines.
If not, cut the electrical wires (power is off, right?) at a convenient spot, close to the pump.
Remove pump.
Use butt-splice, crimp connectors to re-connect the wires. Either use ones with built-in heat shrink tubing or use your own.
Reattach pump and lines.
If the new pump doesn't come with a new filter, check/clean the old one.
The new pump should prime itself.

Ok. Bought new Shurflow pump from Marinemax. Replaced the dead one. Had a small issue with the output side of pump, had spray coming out after I connected. So I really had to tighten it down with a wrench vs hand-tighen unlike the input side. I used the filter from the old pump on the new, it did come loose so I had to re-adjust. But now the pump just continuosly runs. It does not seem to completely pressuruze. I disconnected the out flow and can see water flowing out good. I cannot find any vacuum leaks. Now I am nearly out of water in my tank. The Marina water is turned off till 4/1.

I do get good flow out of the cockpit sink but not good in the galley or head. I don't see any vacuum leaks, the old pump worked fine till it died. Not sure what to do?

I called Surflo and they had no advice other than get another pump and if the problem persists than I must have a vacuum leak somewhere.

If water is coming out of the pump and your tank level is diminishing then it seems to me you have water leaking into the boat somewhere from a sink, shower, toilet, etc.

After commissioning my boat last spring my pump would not turn off but the tank level was not diminishing. I had an air leak on the intake side that would not allow the pump to prime and pressurize properly.

Was your hot water heater empty? The first thing the pump will do is fill up your heater.

The galley and head could simply have clogged aerators.

I cleaned the filter screen even though it did not look bad. Reconnected input and it seems to work now. But the galley sink sometimes moves slow and then picks up. The the pump is a bit nois?y. Kind of disappointed with it. is there a better more robust pump I can put in. The one I have is a Shurflo Model # 3901-0216 Voltage : 12 VDC
Dimensions Inches/Millimeters : 7.3" x 5.0" x 4.6" [184x127x118mm]
Flow Rate GPM/LPM : 3.0 GPM [11.35 LPM]
Amps (Max.) : 5
Shut-Off Pressure : 55 PSI [3.8 BAR]

I installed a Shurflow Extreme series pump and love it. The pump produces more volume on demand. It is variable speed and is quiet. If you are brushing your teeth with a small flow from the faucet you barely hear it. If you fire up the shower it hits full volume and provides good pressure. Worth the extra money IMHO.

Ken,

Thanks. Do you have the part number for the model you bought? I assume the fittings are the same as well as the mount and power requirements?

Jim, What marina are you in? If you can get to Park Marina I will help you get water. I am off on Wednesday and will be @ the Marina. Just shoot me a PM and I will meet you there.

Jim,

Thanks. I am over at Harbor Town. I am going to upgrade to the Shurflo Smart Sensor 4.0 pump. And will return the one I have. I plan on doing it tomorrow. Hopefully it will work better. I do think I may have some air in the line and not sure why. But I do want the better pump anyway. Seems to be a simple replacement but not for me :(
