Installing a Holding Tank on a 1986 - 268 Sundancer

Hello Folks

My 1986 -26 foot Sundancer only has a porta-potty, yes my wife hates it. The current potty can be pumped out its 5 gal. But it can fill fast and it does not last on extended trips.

Has anyone ever installed a proper head with flush toilet and holding tank in these types of sea rays. It seems they all came with these rinky dink potties back in the day, if so where did you place the holding tank. There is room forward under the vee-berth and i could run the connections to the tank through the vanity behind the galley into one of the compartments under the vee berth. That seems to be the easiest way. Im not sure how I would get a connection to a tank in the bilge and there is really no room there anyway.

Any ideas or experiences doing this mod anyone would like to share, would be welcome including type of tank and toilet used.

My 268 came with a holding tank , it is located on starboard side in the engine compartment , holding tank is forward , behind that is a hot water tank .

Mine (not a sundancer) is aft behind the stbd fuel tank with the pump out, "Y" valve and macranator pump on the port side.

I added one to mine a few years back. There are some different options. I went with a manual flush and seems to work pretty well. Go to post #58. It shows how I did some of the mods.

John, you've got some 268 owners helping you out with the logistics, but in regards to "where" you want to put the holding tank... If I were you, I'd forget about putting it under the V-berth just about as quickly you thought about it! There may even be some CG rules about this (I don't know for sure), but regardless... do you really want to be sleeping on top of a poop tank? What if the tank leaks? :wow:

Thanks to all for your advice and recommendations, told the wife to hold it...lol. Thats not going to happen. Looks like holding tank will go starboard infront of hotwater tank.
