I have purchased one of these Groco intake strainers (RSC-1000). The idea is you cover the through hull and it prevents some amount of debris from entering into the strainer. The AC, and engines both have scoop intakes with grates and I have never gotten any debris in the ac or engines strainers the last 4 years (Knock on wood...), the gen intake is just a wide open hole. This would go over the open intake (3/4”), and provide some amount of bulk straining before getting to the strainer.
So, what are the steps to install this? One screw/bolt needs to go all the way through the hull to connect to the bonding system. Drill slightly larger holes, fill with epoxy, let cure, drill again with smaller bit, fill with 5200, then insert screws/bolt? They recommend stainless steel hardware. Here is a link to the manufacturers service sheet... https://www.groco.net/media/file/file/e/x/ex-hull-strnrs.pdf

Pertinent info from pdf:
Installation: Install RSC with access door facing aft. Use stainless steel fasteners and marine grade caulk to secure the strainer to the hull.

Is that like a strainer for a strainer? Seems like the actual strainer (which you can clean out from inside the boat) is all you would need. I'd be worried about adding something to the outside of my hull that only a diver could clean.

Maybe this is intended to add strainer capabilities to thru-hulls which don't have a basket. Is that even a thing?

Sort of a pre-(EDIT, NOT PRETTY!) strainer. My boat doesn’t live in the water, but if it did, diver would open it, clean, then close it. Problem I’m trying to solve is the gunk not only clogs the strainer, BUT also the hoses leading up to it. Two right angles leading into the strainer so I typically have to remove a hose to unclog. Right now, the clog is right near the sea cock, so I have to remove the other end of the hose, and I have a 320 with Vdrives, so I have to lay down on the engines to get to the strainer and sea cock, so not easy.

The bottom of your boat is not cored so no need for elaborate epoxy prep work. Drill the holes on install with screws and one thru bolt as you described but do not use 5200. 4200 or boat life caulk will allow future removal if needed.

Thank you, much appreciated!
