Install a hole under bow cushion??

I have a 2010 185 Sport. My bow has 3 cushions, there is a storage area under the 2 closest to the stern. The cushion right at the bow has no storage under it.

Has anyone cut their own hole there to make a small storage spot? I think it would be a good place to store an anchor but curious as to why SeaRay didn't keep that spot open.

On my 1988 Sorrento 23 I had the same idea. I'm sure I had more room there than on a 185 but I cut a pretty large hole and rimmed it with plastic/metal edge trim you can find at any boating store. I stored my spare prop, convertible top side curtains, some night runnning lights etc. It's a good project.

I'm just curious why SeaRay didn't put a hole there for storage in the first place. Think it would weaken the surrounding fiberglass if I cut a hole in it?

I also have a 2010 185 Sport... but like you, I wonder if it would weaken the structure.

I'd like to keep my anchor there...

Where do you guys keep your anchor now? I keep mine under the sun platform, but this requires me to shut the engine down before getting it out.

i keep mine under the port side bow cushion, that is a very interesting idea though,
but i think its a solid piece to give you better acess for boarding

I keep mine in the bilge, which is fine however its kind of a pain to get to when you have more people than just me and the admiral. I may just move it to one of the storage areas under the bow cushions to make it easier to get to them.

I keep mine in the anchor compartment - so glad I bought a used 05 instead of a new 06 a few years ago. I will never understand Sea Ray's model change in the 185... The 2006 and on redesign was horrible in so many ways (storage, cockpit space, etc)
