Hey guys, I hate to post this subject but my hull out is this Friday. :(

This is my first time putting our "new" boat in heated storage for the winter. Just a few of your thoughts on what you would recommend that I do to the engines/genny/head...ect to prep it for inside heated storage. Besides the basics, like cleaning, removing fridge and pantry items....

I have a 2005 340 Sundancer. V-Drives, Genny......

Thank your your advise....hoping for a fast warm winter!!

Yes, I would do a normal winterization that includes all... never know when the power might go out for a few days!

We don't really freeze protect anything, but would if our facility wasn't so well equipped.

Our storage facility takes about 2 days to hit 0c even in -25c weather due to insulation.

It also has two backup generators, located at different ends of the marina, that fire up automatically in the event of an outage. Enough diesel is stored on site to run the entire winter if needed.

People are in the storage building daily should anything go wrong with the automated monitoring system, they'd know.

Good for you... I wonder how the OP's storage is setup

That’s the question, because insurance isn’t likely to cover freeze damage during lay up…even in heated storage.

It is pretty quick to do the minimum of blow out the water lines and get antifreeze in the block.

I took some precautions the first year, but that was before they had a secondary backup generator.

I don't winterize at all and even keep about 1/4 tank of fresh water which I occasionally use during the winter since the water tap is quite a walk from the boat. That being said, I'm very confident that the facility has enough backup systems in place and the operator is working in the facility virtually every day which reduces the risk of damage to an acceptable level for me.

Still, it is a roll of the dice…

Its pretty quick to winterize the main stuff like engines and gens. I'd be apprehensive to not at least protect the motors and gen, since a fire or any other unexpected event in or near the building may force an issue quickly.
