Hi all,

New to the forum (as well as new to boating). We are looking at a couple of Sea Ray 210's and looking for information. There are a couple of postings here that we are going to look at.

1). 2001 210 Sundeck for $18,500-- it has all records, winterized by Sea Ray annually, maintenance records, original motor, etc.

2). 2000 210 Sundeck for $15,500-- all records, well maintained, no salt water, etc.

Any suggestions on what to ask about or what to watch out for with these 210's?

Thanks in advance for your input...

210 SD was & still is our first boat. Great day boat for the family.
Pay the price & have someone look the boat over if you are unsure or unable.
Used boats will have some wear & tare issues but not much can't be remedied with some patience.
Mine was well maintained as well & it showed during our search.
I looked at 5-6 other boats, looked at this one twice.
Had a trusted friend go over it with me for general condition.
Vendor put it in the water for a test run & we were hooked.
Good luck!

Our 210 SD is our 4th boat. We just purchased our '02 210 SD last year and it is a great boat. It handles the rough stuff very well compared to our last boat (Glastron 20' BR). I like the Bravo 3 very much and the boat is very quiet relative to our past boats and others I've been on. I got a steal on this boat and that is why I went as old as an '02. The prices you post above seem like retail prices and I don't know if that is with the Bravo 3 outdrive and EFI. If you are not familiar with boats, I would definitely hire or bring someone with you on the test drive. You don't say how many hours are on the engine but folks seem to use 50 hrs./year as a standard. Mine had 140 hrs. on the engine, which combined with its price made it a great buy.

The stuff you may not think is very important can add up in dollars very quickly. E.g., carpet, upholstery and canvas are expensive to replace. Whereas gelcoat repairs are pretty simple and with a little practice you can do them yourself. Things like a sticking throttle/shifter control can add up pretty quickly, depending on the outdrive model (the B3 has to be removed to replace its shifter control cable). Again, all this stuff adds up so knowing what the boat needs in total is important.

My only real complaints about this boat is the amount of storage it has for personal effects and the front anchor door (opens the wrong way). It has a huge storage compartments for big stuff but passengers are very limited in where cell phones, glasses, etc. can be safely placed without tucking them away in the large storage compartments where they are not as readily accessible.. My only other complaint is maintenance access. This configuration creates some real difficulties in doing (what used to be simple with my Volvo Penta engines) standard maintenance (e.g., replacing impeller). There is not a lot of room for access.

The cooler storage area is awesome. The bow is huge and very comfortable. The helm is spacious and comfortable for us. The older SD models don't have hinged seat covers, so accessing the under seat storage is not as simple as it could be. Not real difficult just a little cumbersome.

Overall, we are very pleased with the quality of the boat and how it rides.

Good luck,
Phil

I would suggest you hire an experienced marine surveyor to check out the boat if you get serious. I bought mine pretty much sight unseen but paid for the survey up front. He uncovered exhaust risers that needed to be replaced and a few other small issues. The seller was willing to correct everything to the tune of close to $2000. Don't hand over any money until you have it thoroughly checked out and it passes your sea trial. If you're going to be trailering then of course the trailer needs to be checked out well too. A replacement there is an easy 3k.

Good luck, I hope you find the perfect one.

Ken

Thanks all for the input.

I ended up getting a mobile marine mechanic to do the full survey (trailer included) on the 2000 SD after talking the owners down abit. He was impressed with the boat and the motor is only 3 years old with ~150 hours on it. Total hours on the boat was 370.

We got it out on the water the next day and have been out there several times a week. Enjoying it very much and learn more about it daily.

Are there any "must haves" or "must do's" that I should be looking to do?

Thanks!

Do remember to put the drain plug in everytime you go out.
Local family lost their first boat here last year.
Just bought it used, trailered it, launched it. Intent was to come back in the AM & go for the day.
All they could find was the nose pointed up about 2' above the water. Forgot the drain plug.
