I have read posts about thru hull transducers being low on antifreeze and not reading correctly and flashing. Can someone point me in the direction of where to look or provide some info on how to do this? I have a 06 270 select slx. Thanks in advance!

There is a type or airmar transducer used by many sonars that is adjustable for hull deadrise angle. It has a mount well that is filled with fluid and then the transducer itself fits into the well. The well can be filled with antifreeze or mineral oil.

If you are low on anti freeze, then you most likely have to reset and reseal the mount for the transducer.

I have the P79 transducer and I filled it with mineral oil years ago. It never leaked out. That is a IN HULL type.

If you're referring to a factory-installed transducer, you don't have the type that needs antifreeze (or mineral oil). It is installed completely THROUGH the hull and you can see a small, black plate on the underside of the boat (protrudes maybe 1/8").

I see the small black plate on the bottom. Any idea what kind of transducer this is? And could the transducer be bad, causing the flashing erroneous depth reading?

I'm not positive - maybe an Airmar model? You might find it in your owner's/parts manual - but I'm not even sure if you do, if it would list the model. It could certainly be bad, but erroneous readings can also be caused by slime/growth (or bottom paint) on the outer plate, as well as very soft bottoms and/or shallow depths.

Thank you for your help! I will check the bottom for slime/growth. Bottom is not painted. The erroneous readings are constant, whether in shallow or deep water.

One of (probably many) things I'm not really up to speed on is the ins-n-outs of Smartcraft. I know, generally, what I'm doing with it, but I also know that there's much I don't know. So, with that in mind, is there a "reset procedure" for the depthfinder listed in your manual (or Smartcraft manual)? Maybe a hard reset for the whole system... but I'd wait on that - I know there are guys on here that know much more about the specifics with SC than me.
